Cheering Squad Helps Suifland To Vidory Wyhether it w as during a foothall game. a basketball game, or a pep rally. Suitland High Schools vheer- leaders. devked in red and white, were always cheer- ing and yelling the teams on to victory. This year the squad consisted of five seniors. two juniors. and two sophomores. Sponsored by Mrs. Kroll and led by their captain Jinny Catts, the cheer- leaders did more to promote school spirit than any other organization. Promoting school spirit and cheering at the l.V. games were the two main activities of the ,l.V. eheer- leaders. The cheers of Denise Merello. Carolyn Horn, Annette Stallings, Judy Gorely. Kimble Faircloth. and Mari Bolling sparked the J.V. team throughout the season. The squad had no regular captain but chose a Captain for each game.

The Suitland chapter of the Future Teachers Club. part of a national or- ganization. .created a greater interest in teaching and phases of the teaching op- portunities. The club has had many noted speakers. They sent a representa- tive to the meeting of the state Future Teachers Association. The officers include Janice Bennett. president: Betty Davis. vice-president: Nancy Boswell, secretary: and David Ballard. treasurer. The club is sponsored by Mrs. Duke and Mr. Spriggs, Nafion-wide Clubs Help Tram For The Fufure The Suitland chapter of the Future Nurses of America performed services to the school and community by study- ing a Red Cross home nursing course, assisting with the diabetic survey, mak- ing gifts for the Alms House, visiting hospitals in the area. and sponsoring the school drive. lts purpose was to acquaint students with the specialized fields of nursing. and to aid members in choosing and preparing for nursing schools. Sponsored by Mrs. Rebecca Windle. school nurse, the F. N.
