Text from Pages 1 - 144 of the 1986 volume:

The Beacon i 7 II 16 LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT As your final semester of college draws to a close, you may find youself having strong emotions about your experiences at Suffolk University. These emotions are unique to each person, yet common in many ways to all. The Spring Semester of 1986 is the culmination of your undergraduate years at Suffolk University and is a time of reflection and anticipation. It is a time to reflect upon your experiences at Suffolk University: on your successes and accomplish- ments, as well as on those learning experiences which have helped you grow, mature and understand better one another and the world we share. It is time to anticipate the next step in your life: perhaps graduate school or new job responsibilities following graduation. The standards for Suffolk University students are high indeed. You have invested hard work and long hours to complete your academic program at Suffolk University, and to fulfill your many other commitments and responsibil- ities: to your parents and family, to your faculty, your employer, your friends and to yourself. The investment you and others have made in your education will be returned many times over, in the level of your performance as a productive and contributing member of our society and in the quality of your life. Suffolk University has an historic commitment to serving the people of the Boston Metropolitan Area and beyond through education. That history has been enriched and strengthened by your presence here. We are grateful for your contribution as a student and look forward to your affiliation as an alumna or alumnus. The Class of 1986 joins a distinguished group of alumni who will forever be identified with Suffolk University and who share the common bond of the Suffolk University experience. Be proud of your alma mater and be confident that you have been well prepared for the challenges that lie ahead. Learn from your failures, enjoy the rewards of your successes and invite others to share in those rewards with you, for that is the Suffolk University legacy. I wish you well. Cordially, Daniel H. Perlman President 17 18 TO THE CLASS OF 86 : As we prepare for the journey to venture into the world, we all follow different paths. Whatever your future you will always look back and wonder where the time has gone. As you look back at the past four years, you will remembe r one thing that you may have done differently, but you must remember the time is gone and never regret what might have been. Accept what is now, the present, and live your future to the fullest. As graduates of such a fine university as Suffolk you each have the abilities and potential to be very successful and for most, you will prosper from this success. Suffolk University has prepared us for society and we must contribute to it with the knowledge and skills we have acquired here. To the Administrators and Faculty, I thank you for myself and my class. To the Class of 1986, 1 wish you all of you the best of luck in the years ahead. It was indeed an honor and a pleasure to serve you as your Class President for the past three years and also as President of the Student Government Association. I hope my concerns were your concerns as I did my best to represent you, the students of Suffolk University. The Class of 1986 will never be forgotten at Suffolk University. Thank you, Good Luck and Much Success. Leo S. Fama President, Student Government Association Mosunmola Adekunbi Economics Cynthia J. Adelman Journalism Public Relations Joseph A. Graduating, or commencing, is no exception. Although my years at Suffolk, like yours, have been filled with hard work and sacrifice, I realize that they have been some of the best times of my life. I was able to concentrate on my studies, my friendships, and myself. (Who can forget long Christmas breaks and taking the afternoon off?) In some ways, we had the best of both worlds — commuting to school and being forced to make an extra effort to become involved. Yet we had to maintain a life outside of Suffolk University. Despite the work, the time went by quickly and enjoyably. This yearbook has been, quite simply, a challenge. In between the grumbling over deadlines was a great deal of enjoyment. I saw the Class of 1986 on a daily basis, both in person and in pictures. I hope this yearbook captures some of what you experienced at Suffolk. Years from now, I hope you look back at it with amusement and enjoyment. Good Luck. Happy Memories. Sincerely, M Sandra J. Bradley Yearbook Editor MANY THANKS to: Stephen Walsh (who took care of business), Margaret Higgins, Steve Forslund, John Carrier, Brian Jacobson, Patrick Varley, the Student Activities Office, and Joanne Norman.
