Mr. Edgar L. DeForest, Dr.. Theodore J. Little, Mr. George D. Kirwin. The department of Speech covers the theory and practise of informal and formal public address. One of the aims of this department is to provide training in the fundamentals of logical reasoning, the principles of argumentation and debate, and in parliamentary procedure. The basic principles underlying speech problems in their relationship to the individual students are studied as are the various techniques employed in persuasion and the principles of oral interpretation. The art of dramatics and play production and presentation are also covered and there are many oppor- tunities for practical work. 74
