Meeting tomorrow morning in the auditorium.” “Hey, buy a SUNBURST. It’s only a quarter.” What a way to start the day - debating. Come on, girls. Let’s try that last routine again. Oh, why didn’t I study it last night?” Practice makes perfect! ' a B.T.W.’s bus making its morning rounds. It ' s a mad rush around here at 8;4S. Everyone has the jitters under the watchful eyes of the evaluation team. 6 Even the clock is dragging at this time of day. Cheerleaders feed the basketball team cake to make them sweet. MORNING It’s second period, and Lennie Carr still hasn’t awakened! How can anyone dare to sleep dunng Mrs. Williams ' s exciting Sociology films? In Mr. Jones’s absence. Bill storms the ofnee and soon is in complete control. Mr. Jones installs Bill Ballard as the new SCA President. This is the good side (the one without the dents)! On your mark, get ready, sing! Mrs. Sullivan projects on the overhead projector. Library Assistants help harvest new books. You’d really be surprised at what comes out of the Shop classes. 9 I thought 12 o’clock would never get here. I ' m starved! Teachers turn Mrs. White ' s Office into a private lunchroom. Some people hud rather talk than eat. LUNCH Who ever heard of 40 cents for a hamburger? What intestinal fortitude! Guess what? Donnie Beamon has table manners! And there arc those who have other thin{!s on their minds at lunch. Seniors fiuard the front steps against an underclassmen in- Thc Old Gym has soul. Sophomores substitute bicycles for cars after lunch. Creative students receive certificates. 2 o’clock finally only 1 more hour left. Mr. Owen’s birthday-sweet 29 and never been kissed! AFTERNOON The nervous tapping of timed writings. World Geography students enjoy South American food. Mrs. Toney reads afternoon announcements. Now you know where you got that peanut bag full of huUs! Inquisitive student Hres questions at Mrs. Cones. Nancy Bailey serves as a teacher’s aide to special education class. 13 Gosh, I ' ve waited 12 years to be first at the water fountain. LIBRARY AFTER SCHOOL “We’re ready to go home! Bill Ballard adds to the confusion in the halls. Teachers take 5 after the bell. Cheerleading practice? “Peace on Earth” wins 1st prize. Russ Hines was elected queen by the football team with Beverly Lassiter and Angela Locust princesses. Class floats were begun weeks in advance carrying out given themes. Finally, after weeks of anticipation, the night of October 23 arrived. Russ was crowned queen, the Juniors captured float honors, and the football team fought to a 14 14 tie with the Smithfield Packers. The Senior class celebrates “The 25th Annual Peanut Bowl.” Juniors honor public education - “100 Years and Still Going.” PEANUT BOWL Sophomores thought Polly wanted a Packer. The judges didn’t. The Freshman class walked their way into 2nd place with a novel idea. BTW Junior High presented their first float “Pick A Peck of Packers. The 1970 Peanut Bowl is highlighted by the crowning of the queen, Russ Hines, by Mr. Cloyd Steinmetz.
