Most other Group ll schools, outclassed by previous Raider elevens, refused to schedule Suffolk. Faced with the toughest schedule ever, Suffolk's green line was not expected to turn in a great performance. With 8 wins and 2 ties, the Raider wonder team came through against a heavy Group I schedule to give Suffolk High School the first undefeated season in its entire history. The highlights of the season were the Raiders' 21 to I4 win over highly favored Maury in a thrilling game played at Norfolk's Foreman Field and their last-half comebacks over South Norfolk and Cradock. The P-Nut Bowl Game with E1izabethCity, its elaborate pre-game parade, half-time festivities, and dance, pro- vided Suffolk Students and fans with another thrilling Fri- day. 65 Suffolk Suffolk Suffolk Suffolk Suffolk Suffolk Suffolk Suffolk Suffolk Suffolk 48 Kempsville 6 Granby 6 Norview I9 Cradock I9 Fredericksburg 21 Churchland 2I Maury I4 South Norfolk I2 Elizabeth City 25 Harrisonburg '55 N . if stkty i x xvi Qi' Q, V C X KV? at , ... .vt 'fo'-1' A it mc ? r 45' ,K P ' 5 ' V 'MU if 4' . uw, M FN, ' fif- ..,.f W ' 'H' as K ff ,, r1 P1 A Capt. The two conference losses came at the hands of Churchland and Mathew- Whaley, two undefeated Group ll powerhouses. Earlier in the season the Raiders defeated Church- land in a non-conference clash. Only three players graduate from this years team, Bill Rundio, Bobby Hopkins, and Halford King so the outlook for the next year is very bright.
