We set a new trend by waiting until our 5 s. What a day it was when they finally arrived! Then we held our most 5S? nan! t: selling candy bars-on buses, in the halls before and after school, and •The facultv ehLynn Johnston and Heidi Crosier to attend Laurel Girls State with Pat McAdam as alternate, and Paul Turek and Brad Duckrow to attend Nutmeg Boys’ State with Bob Peyman as alter¬ nate. Since Brad had been accepted at the “Program in Biochemistry” at Loomis for the summer. Bob went to “State”. On the evening of the Junior Prom we entered through the archway of paper, tripping over the stairs. We were all awod at the transformation, not only of the old gym but of our classmates as well. Co- Chairman Shirley Phillips and Pat McAdam had everything organized with a real fountain to emphasize our theme: “Three Coins in a Fountain”. The Grand March turned into an ordeal by the sixth lap, but it 72 HISTORY was worth it for the girls in the court. When Richard Favreau crowned Celeste Szoka Queen, the prom ended, although the evening had just begun for many of us. When graduation arrived and we saw our upperclassmen leaving, we finally realized that we were now “The Ones” with only one more year to go. We elected Richard Favreau President, Bill Moffett Vice-President, Francie LaMonica, Secretary , and Chris Wilson, Treasurer for our senior year. The 1967 Sagitta was already well underway with Heidi Crosier as Editor and Joyce Canfield Assistant Editor. Terry Duni headed the Suffiekl Spokes¬ man as Editor-in-Chief. Our magazine drive began and our mascots, skunks, appeared around school as most seniors sold their fifty ' dollar quota. Finally the results were in and the top salesmen were Pat McAdam, Craig Parker, Jim Schneidt, Merry Kalb, and Billy Moffett. Our soccer team won the NCCC Title bv remaining unscored until our next to the last game. Gail Kuzontkoski headed the cheerleaders with seniors Susan Orr, Helen Piejko, Eileen Henesey, and Jeanne Samsel. Mem Kalb, Lillian Bonelli, Laurie Laughlin, Pat McAdam, and Kathy Bellmore, th semo i the girls’ basketball team, helped to maintain the team’s unbeaten record of the past three years. We named our Se nior Ball, which was the first big dance held in the new school, “Illusion. John Beaulieu and Francie LaMonica acted as Co-Chairmen. Everyone enjoyed Arlene Conozewski s open house partv before the ball. We decorated with pop art creations and illusions. Gail Kuzontkoski was chosen queen. Marcia Monson, Celeste Szoka, Jill Clark, Diane Mills, Dara Johnson, Shirley Phillips, Merrv Kalb, and Jeanne Samsel were named to her court. We enjoyed a buffet dinner-dance after the ball. The homemaking students prepared a luncheon for the members of the National Honor Society and their parents after the induction on February 9th. The senior class sponsored dances after the basketball games to earn money. N ith the beginning of the second semester, Mr. Ouillette launched a program granting the seniors new privileges. We could go to the library without passes or to the auditorium during study halls. We played cards, talked and listened to records or to the radio in the auditorium—what a way to study! The Yearbook Staff worked feverishly (?) to meet their last deadline on March 16th. As the end of the year raced forward we finished our high school career in a whirl of activities. We had our class banquet, headed by Arlene Gonczewski and Wayne Golon, at the Kimball Towers and finally our graduation on June twenty-first, nineteen hundred and sixty seven, the first graduation in the history of Suffiekl High School to be held outdoors! 73 THREE COINS IN A FOUNTAIN Richi and Eileen lead us round and round. Our soccer team had one of the finest sea¬ sons ever witnessed by our school. The bous basketball team played their games in their superior Wildcat tradition. Once again , the girls team was undefeated. The track and cross country teams ran their ways to victory. The baseball team proved itself able to accept all given challenges. Our golf and tennis boys fought to achieve many fine wins. The cheerleaders aroused more spirit than ever before , and the response of the student body was outstanding. We thank you all. More important , we wish to thank the coaches for their hard work and guidance in making this year extremely profitable in the eye of sports. ml _ , The Editors A cheering award for Gail Smitty receiving track award ATHLETIC BOARD R.
