Dear Graduates: The class of ’87 leaves a record of extraordinary achievement be- hind. Each of you has been a part of an historic series of events which reflect your talents, your character and your heart. Needless to say, the number of academic awards won by the members of this class is as remarkable as ever. The sports teams have more than held their own and during your years here our Wrestling Teams, Swim- ming Teams and Fencing Teams have won City Championships. Our Football Teams, Bowling Teams, and Soccer Teams won many Divi- sional Championships. Our school placed more students in the All City Orchestra and the All City Band than did virtually any other school in the city. Our Debate Team and our Math Teams have won City, State, and National honors. However, not many people know of the service rendered the people of our city by Stuyvesant students. Our Arista tutored students in neighborhood schools and the Stu- dent Union helped feed the elderly on Thanksgiving Day. Clothing drives and food drives were mounted to help the homeless. Students served as volunteers in hospitals, shelters, homes for the aged and in children’s centers. The class of ’87 gave of themselves willingly and with much spirit. These demonstrations of caring, of love, of conscience, arc the special hallmarks of this class. I hose who gave did not follow some prescriptions or a recipe one might find in an enchiridion for col- lege admission. I hey gave of themselves because it is their nature. What each of you has done during your years at Stuyvesant will echo through the years. The theme of this yearbook is “reflections”. When I think of all you have done, I think of the infinite reflections seen in a pair of parallel mirrors. The images formed stretch on and on to infinity and so do the accomplishments of this class. The sounds of your voices reflecting off the walls echo on forever. All of us who have had the privilege of knowing you will remember you always. The spirit of camarade- rie, friendship and love which characterizes this class will linger in our memory as well. As you leave Stuyvesant, we wish each of you the most productive and fulfilling future. You have done well here and we know you will continue to do so as you move ahead through life. We hope you will remember your years here with much joy and that you will come back often to share your life with us.
