Health Education Stuyvesant High School's Health Education Depart- ment, chaired by Mr. Michael Moskowitz, was fortu- nate to add Ms. Eileen Mentone to its staff despite recent budgetary cuts. The Emergency Medical Technician elective was in- troduced this year. It provides students with an op- portunity to learn and practice life-saving skills. Our sports program has also been expanded: nineteen teams are now offered, serving approximately five hundred students. This year the Volleyball, Bowling, and Girl's Cross Country Teams all won the Manhat- tan Borough Championships. Co-ed gym classes were continued. This program makes it possible for all students to have maximum use of all equipment. Michael Moskowitz Paul Anik 1, -'-Hunan? WJ ,fa Sebastian Cavallaro Eileen Mentone Charles Shafkey

Industrial Arts The Industrial Arts Department, chaired by Mr. Franklin Wright, is a very important part of the curriculum. Each student is required to complete one term of shop. The one term shop courses offered are: Graphic Arts, Plastics, Metalwork and Woodwork- ing. In these classes students are able to use several types of machines fwhich are employed in the indus- trial arts tieldj. The Students are also given opportu- nities to create' projects of their own design. In the senior year students are required to take a ten period shop course. This year seniors were able to choose from several interesting electives, including Plastics, Advanced woodworking, Telescope Making, Ceram- ics and Machine Shop. The idea of these courses is to enable students to gain experience and skill by maxi- mum use of the machinery and tools. Several changes have taken place within the depart- ment. Mr. Pon was added to the staff, and Mr. Tam left the school. Frank Wright Daniel Golio Samuel Rubinstein William Sheinhen
