English The English Department, under the direction of Mr. William Ince, offers a very wide selection of electives to juniors and seniors. These electives cover many areas including: Creative Writing, Journalism, Black Identity, Elizabethan Drama, and the Feminine Im- age in Literature. Students may take any of these electives in place of the regular English course. This enables students to study those areas of the literary world they find most interesting. During the course of the school year, the department invites several poets and playwrights to come and discuss their works with the English classes. The English Department sponsors CALIPER, the literary magazine of the school, as well as SPECTA- TOR, the official school newspaper. The Department was fortunate to add Ms. Judith Meisels to its staff. Unfortunately, Mr. Sterling Jensen left the depart- ment and Mr. Lipper is on leave. ,5 Eileen Lynch Michael Marks Rlene Dahlberg Frank McCourt William Ince Roger Baronat Thomas Dolan Q Judith Meisels

Foreign Language The Foreign Language Department, which is chaired by Mr. George Malicono, offers courses in Spanish, French, German, Latin, Russian and Hebrew. Ad- vanced Placement French, taught by Mr. Rattner and Advanced Placement Spanish, taught by Miss Puccio, are also offered. The Foreign Language De- partment sponsors extra-curricular activities such as the French, Greek, Hebrew, Latin and Russian Cul- ture Clubs. Kaleidoscope, the award winning maga- zine, is published under the guidance of Miss Maria Puccio. This publication devotes itself to the literary efforts of students who excel in foreign language. The Department was sorry to see two excellent teachers, Miss Mereson and Miss Katz, leave but welcomed the addition of Mrs. Eldridge and Mrs. Schmitt. Mr. Rosenrauch, by teaching a Hebrew course, has filled a void created when Miss Mereson departed. George Malicono Esther Blumenfeld Eleanor Eldridge John Harvey ff .f A f' Eli Mayorkas Maria Puccio
