Chemistry And Physics The Chemistry and Physics Departments are chaired by Mr. Abraham Baumel. All students are required to complete a minimum of a year course in Chemistry and a year course in Physics. A wide variety of elec- tives are offered in both sciences. In Chemistry, stu- dents may choose from Qualitative Analysis, Organic Chemistry and Advanced Placement Chemistry. The Physics program includes electives such as Astron- omy, Mechanics, Electricity, Advanced Placement Physics, Electronics and the Philosophy of Science. There have been several changes in the department this year. Mr. William LeSeur retired from the Phys- ics Department last June. Mr. Norman Horenstein returned from his sabbatical this September, and Miss Daisy Furth joined the department. Unfortu- nately, Mr. Thomas Micklow has been ill for the entire fall term. Mr. John Callow has been serving in his place. . English The English Department, under the direction of Mr. William Ince, offers a very wide selection of electives to juniors and seniors. These electives cover many areas including: Creative Writing, Journalism, Black Identity, Elizabethan Drama, and the Feminine Im- age in Literature. Students may take any of these electives in place of the regular English course. This enables students to study those areas of the literary world they find most interesting. During the course of the school year, the department invites several poets and playwrights to come and discuss their works with the English classes. The English Department sponsors CALIPER, the literary magazine of the school, as well as SPECTA- TOR, the official school newspaper. The Department was fortunate to add Ms. Judith Meisels to its staff. Unfortunately, Mr. Sterling Jensen left the depart- ment and Mr. Lipper is on leave. ,5 Eileen Lynch Michael Marks Rlene Dahlberg Frank McCourt William Ince Roger Baronat Thomas Dolan Q Judith Meisels
