They are: Chorus, Madrigal Singers, Stage Band, Symphonic Band and Symphonic Orchestra. John Barousg Andrea Oser: The Chorus is a vital part of the Music Department. Its members are students who are programmed for MU-6, a music class, or who volunteer to join during their free fifth period. They perform at all the school concerts. They also bring joy to hospital patients at Christmas with their caroling. The Madrigal Singers is a relatively new part of the Department. They often perform songs of an Ecclesiastical nature. They are accompanied by recorders and violins. Mr. Pomer- antz coordinates both the Chorus and Madrigal Madrigal Singers The Stage Band is one of Stuyvesant's finest ex- tra-curricular organizations. The band performs a wide range of music. In addition to their annual concert in school, the band performs at the annual Parent's Association Dinner Dance at the Brook- lyn Navy Yard. They also perform at other Stuyve- sant functions in and out of school. The Stuyvesant H. S. Stage Band is a fine example of the high caliber of performance in the Music Department. The Symphonic Band has been an important part of the Music Department for many years. Each year, the band performs at the Winter and Spring Concerts. The band performs a great variety of musical works, everything from Greigg to Gersh- win. One additional advantage of band is that par- ticipating seniors are exempt from the 10 period shop requirement. Each year the Symphonic Band, directed by Mr. Max Watras, plays at graduation. Mr. Watras also directs the Stage Band. Stuyvesant's Music Department is a very impor- tant part of the cultural experience at Stuyvesant.
