Members of the club are exposed to the Jewish heritage, history, customs and laws. The importance of the State of Israel as a Jewish state and a homeland for all Jews is emphasized. The club schedules lectures, group discussions and , trips throughout the year. Hopefully, the 'ff club will continue to flourish in the years V? to come. Sports Advisory Council Stuyvesant's Sports Advisory Council was started in 1976 by Mr. Michael Moscowitz, who is chairman of the Physical Education Department. Its members consist of the varsity teams' captains and Mr. Moscowitz. Monthly meetings are held to discuss ways to build up the athletic program, plan various schoolwide events, organize school athletic func- tions, and to strengthen school spirit. This year, the council has attempted to raise funds for the school athletic pro- gram. Season sports passes were sold and juice machines were installed in the locker rooms. The council has been very successful in its endeav- ors. Seekers The Seekers Club is composed of students interested in learn- ing about each other and ex- ploring the Christian religion. Joy Eng, the student organizer of the club, expressed it as be- ing a place people can discuss the Bible and other related lit- erature. They exchange many ideas and find both academic and moral support. The Seek- ers Club is an active organiza- tion which holds lively discus- sions on Christianity of yester- day, today and tomorrow. In addition, the members sing songs and go on outings. Ukranian Club The Ukranian Club has been meeting ap- proximately seven years, and Mr. Hen- dricks is its advisor. The club's main pur- pose is to make Stuyvesantians aware of Ukranians and their Culture and contri- butions to America. Ukranians are not Russians and they want people to be aware of the fact that their culture and language is very differ- ent from that of Russia. In order to achieve their purpose and gain identifica- tion, the Ukranian Club has participated in various events such as International Night, The Ukranian Festival, and the celebration of the U.S. Bicentennial. Mrs. Beverly Katz describes S.P.A.R,K. as an emotional education of a student. Mr. Ron Cancemi is the new coordinator of S.P.A.R.K.. He plans to expand the pro- gram and hopes to have a group leader- ship program.
