DEDICATIO Jacob Wortman Assistant Principalg Acting Principal Emeritus The 1972 faculty roster of Stuyvesant High School failed to include a name that had appeared on it for every one of the past forty-seven years. The missing name was Jacob Wortman. When Mr. Wortman joined the Mathematics Department in 1925, Stuyvesant had been in existence for only twenty-one years. This means that he has been a member of our faculty for most of the school's history. It is no wonder that we affectionately think of him as Mr. Stuyvesant, During his long years of service, Mr. Wortman has occupied many positions that enabled him to exercise his remarkable administrative ability. He has been Coordinator of Examinations, Dean of the Senior Class, Chairman of the Guidance Department, and Assistant Principal. From 1953 to 1954, he was Ac- ting Principal administering the school with his innate efficiency. In addition to his official assignments, Mr. Wortman served as school representative to the Stuyvesant Alumni Association and to the Parents Association. The Class of June 1973 dedicates this issue of the INDICATOR to Mr. Wortman with sincere ap- preciation of his many and valuable contributions to Stuyvesant High School and with best wishes for many years of happy and rewarding retirement.
