f A I -aiu, f lfUN1llll , llllllllll To Ibe Gmdzftzley of fzzfze 1958 A recently popular national pastime is criticizing our public high schools. Professional educators, laymen and even students are ever ready to expatiate on the shortcomings of our high schools and to tell us how the shortcomings can be remedied. For fifty-four years Stuyvesant High School has been educating New York boys. During these years a high caliber, devoted faculty has been striving to give our boys a sound education. The reported elective courses in Co-ed Cooking, How To Behave On A Date and Social Dancing are not in our curric- ulum, Our students have always been given a substantial program of English, Social Studies, Language, Science, Mathematics and Industrial Arts. The boys who graduate from Stuyvesant have acquired a hrm educational foundation on which they can build the superstructure of collegiate and professional training. In addition to facts, theories, principles and ability to think for themselves, we have tried to give them an understanding of the concomitant moral and spiritual values that are essential for living in a free World. Speaking for the faculty and myself, I extend to our graduates our con- gratulations and best wishes for happy and socially useful lives in the years beyond commencement. Cordially yours, LEONARD I. FLIEDNER Principal ,, iw
