l W ' i l Da. EDWARD COYLE WALTER STOFFRECEN Languages Music department is under the direction of Mr. Robert Tolle who con- stantly revises the elective courses so that the latest developments of every Biological field may be studied. Each of the above departments has played a major part ill help- ing to establish Stuyvesant as one of New Yorkis finest science high schools. Our Language Department, headed by Doctor Edward Coyle, gives the student body a choice of several languages. Among these are German, Latin, and Italian besides French and Spanish. This department, with its fine teachers, offers to the student interested in attending college a fine background in the language of his choice. The Music Department, under the chairmanship of Mr. Walter Stoffregen helps to make the studentis stay at Stuyvesant enter- taining by offering elementary courses dealing with the rudiments of Music. These courses are rather interesting and help to provide the varied background needed by the cultured person. This de- partment also trains our fine orchestra, band, and glee club. The Semi-Annual Concerts of the Orchestra and Glee Club as well as the spirited tunes of the Band are enjoyed by all. The Mechanic Arts Department, of which Mr. Charles jordan is chairman, offers fine basic courses which are designed to help one select an avocation. To those students who intend to go into a vocational trade, electives such as Instrument Making give a fine preparation for their work in life. Mr. Frank Panuska's Mechanical Drawing Department provides excellent courses in such fields as drafting and architectural draw- ing. Stuyvesant High School has a fine reputation as a pre-en- gineering school and the Mechanical Drawing Department has helped to build it. Mr. Joseph Eberly and his excellent Health Education Depart- ment have provided the relaxation needed by all students. The members of the department help to keep us in top physical condi- tion as well as coaching the various teams that have won so many athletic honors for us. The school Library is used by all students. It contains many books which provide excellent supplementary material, which is so necessary in a two session school such as ours. Miss Hilda Engle- hardt and her staff make this work both pleasant and possible. We who have attended Stuyvesant have been well prepared for future life. Because of the work of our faculty, every student, whether he plans to attend college or not, will find that the ex- cellent preparatory work will be a great asset when he enters the world of responsibility.
