' N For Surpossing Wealth Unspoken At the time of the writing of this message the ultimate outcome of this war for the protection of democratic ideals and for the protection of civilization at large seems to be fairly certain. We all hope that it will come sooner than anticipated or expected. To date. twenty-three of your number have entered the Armed Forces since the beginning of this term. Great credit is due them for this action. It is fortunate that boys who graduate from Stuyvesant are, on the average, six months or a year younger than the graduates of schools who do not select their boys. This makes your decision in the matter of entering the Armed Forces much easier. However, I wish to bring to your attention a very important con- sideration. For the next fifty years, beginning immediately after the close of the war, the world will need men of broad vision, good education. and specialized training. men who can help in planning as well as in shaping the world to come. For this reason I believe that it is most important for you to remain in school as long as you possibly can. The world will need statesmen, engineers, doctors, scientists, economists, in fact, men of special training in many fields. Upon you will depend the straightening out of the present terrible conditions in the world and upon you will depend the con- tinuance of peace and happiness in the world. Think these things over carefully and decide wisely. JOAN. Q a Acting Principal 1 3
