D. E. Trainin Thirty-four lunior and Senior students were enrolled in the D. E. program in Vocational training this year in the Stuttgart High School. The Distributive Education training program as referred to above is where a student in the Iunior or Senior class, sixteen years of age, alternates a half- day on the job and a half-day in school in a learning procedure for particular trade or occupation. The growth of this type of vocational education can no doubt be attributed to the fact that it meets the real employment needs of a particular commun- ity, and aids the school to give better service to business and industry-that was particularly true in Stuttgart. The part-time Distributive Education Training program helps to bring the employer and the school together in an effort to train boys and girls who plan to end their educational career at the completion of high school for entry into productive employment. The school does its part by furnishing technical instruction and the em- ployer does his part by providing the trainee with directed experience under actual working conditions. It is hoped that this department will contribute to the proper coordination of the home, the pupil, and the school for a better vocational future in the lives of our students. Mrs. Mason tMarilyn Morphewj and Irene CBetty Wells? regard her as a social hindrance. Sari finds a rival in Helen Alton tlqenee Woodallt who regards Hardy as a good catch now that he is rich. Sari perceives that their money is making the Masons easy pickings for fast talkers chiefly Sen- ator Dan Rollard CBuster Burrowsb and LeRoy Morton Hack Ionesj who has practiced his wiles on lrene. Hardy goes away leaving Sari with 350,000 and some signed checks. She hits upon a plan by which she backs the servants in far-fetched schemes thus breaking Hardy, who finds out too late. All's well that ends well, hows ever, and Irene gets thrown over by LeRoy, Helen stops chasing Hardy, Sari tells everybody she is a Countess by writing them a check for the amount she has spent, and one of the servants finds he has invested in oil and declared the family on it. Other students in the cast were: Otis Bowden, Margaret lean Ellis, C. A. Walker, Mickey Hanks, Prank Essex, Howard Hammans, Lethea Englekes, and Charles Selig. Those on the committees were: Stage-Properties-A-Setting: Darrill Barriklow, Chairmany Alton Pattersony ferry Young: Sterling Oden. IIUN ICDIIQ IPIDMY How would you like for a glamourous young movie star to live with your family? That was just the situation involved in the l946 lunior Play, She's a Soldier's Sweetheart. This production combined all the ingredients of a romantic-comedy: hilarious humor, intense drama and a dash or two of mystery. Presented on the evening of December l4, Shes a Soldier's Sweetheart is unique in that it was the first play to be presented at SHS making use of the Cyclorama, a stage device purchased by the school. Carolyn Pullig played the lead as Andrea Vale, a beautiful movie actress who comes to live with the Larkin family as a publicity stunt for her picture. But Andrea falls in love with Kip Larkin, a handsome young college graduate, who was Gay Gillette. Complications set in when Kip finds out that her affections for him are merely a publicity stunt planned by Andrea's press agent, portrayed by Clyde Pettit. A lohn Edmund Stuckey and Charles Davis are the two young lovers en- amoured with Sherry Ann Drennen and Ioan Pollard added to the hilarity. One of the plays finest portrayals was Charles Montgomery as Rickey. Other starring roles were played by Sue Gunnell as the Francie. Leland Carlie as the gay old grandfather, and Gloria Bueker as the lovable grand- mother. Ioyce Hoskins, Peggy Ragland, and Pat Patterson were the three re- porters while Donny Loveless and Donald Borchert enacted the parts of the two soldiers. The play was directed by Mrs. Gregory Selig, assisted by Mrs. Oberah Bove. Of course the play ended with a happy note and as the curtain lowered on the third and final act, the audience agreed that Shes a Soldier's Sweet- heart was one of the finest plays ever presented in SHS, that the cast and script were extraordinary and that the play will long be remembered in the annals of Stuttgart High.
