K, lr 0 ' The play, which is condsidered one of the best that has been given 1 i in several years, is the -story of an eccentric retired physician, who has as his hobby the, invention -of a steam bath. Through a case of fmistaken identity he receives his new butler as j his friend's son, whom he has never seen. ' 1. 5 ', Of course any play cannot be complete without a woman in the 'H iff! -case. The thrilling story is cleverly written 1 11 and the series of dramatic situations arising' from one climax to another Q1 is very interesting. 11111 The action of the comedy occurs at the Rip 'Van Winkle Inn in the 1 1 Catskill Mountains. The plot has to do with a struggle for supremacy 1 in a furniture factory 'between Ted, the rightful heir, and one Ira St-one, an unscrupulous adventurer, who is trying to gain control of the business. 1111 Ted is assisted by Mollie Macklin, the plucky little housekeeper of the 11111 Rip Van Winkle Inn. 111 The first act takes place the day before the stockholders meeting 1111 11111 and according to the by-laws of the Furniture Company, every stock- 1 holder must register with the attorney by midnight. Mollie is in despair 1 11 because Ted, wh-o holds the controlling interest, has failed to come 1111 home in time to sign the register. All have signed but Ted and the un- 111, 1 21 scrupulous Stone is anxiously waiting to gain control of the business., 11 11 Mollie and Skeet Kelly, the hotel clerk, eagerly await the coming of the afternoon train. Ted does not arrive. At last, determined to save .K-51, the factory from Stone, Mollie and Skeet persuade a young civil engi- 1111 neer to impersonate the missing Ted. Stone is very discouraged but all 1 1 ,goes well until Jim Ryker, the attorney, announces that Gie is personally 1 111 acquainted with the real Ted. M10-llie and Skeet have already intro- duced the engineer as Ted and are at their Wits end to know what to do, when the lawyer mysteriously disappears. 11111 111 1 Complications come fast and furious in A-ct II, for the real Ted ,1 1 11 has been 'a boyh-o-od lover of Miss Loganberry, an old maid, wlho is anx- 11111 'Q 1 iously awaiting his return. The engineer is kept bu-sy trying to escape 1 1 1 from the spinisfter and further his own interest in Diana Garwood, a 11: guest at the Inn. Ted comes home bringing a bride with him and Q? Mollie hides the'm in the basement. Tlhe plot is further complicated 'uf i 1 by Henrietta Darby, who has a penchan-t for playing the ukelele and 111 111 singing! Aloha Oc to any man available. She too, owns stock in the 15 Company and places it in the Inn .safe for safe-keeping. As Mollie is lock-ing up for the night a mysterious form steals into the darkened 11 room and rifles the safe. Mollie gives the alarm but the burglar disap- 11 1 pearswith the widow's shares of stock. Aunt Jubilee, the negro co-ok, furnishes the fun. 1 111 1 1 Act III takes place the 'morning after the robbery. Little by little, 1 1 the mysteries of the play are solved. Seventeen was not an fl age. It was a disease. . if big In his heart, William knew all the tortures and delights of love. Q But he was still sent by his 'mother on errands of the most humiliating 1-Y sort and depended on his father for every nickel, the use of which he L must justify before he got it. - ' is Silly Bill fell in love with Lola, the Baby-Talk Lady , a vapid l W El, little flirt. In order to woo her in an appropriate manner, he stole his T T father's evening clothes. When his wooing became a .nuisance to the neighborhood, his mother stole them from him and had them altered to Ti fit the middle-aged for-m ofher husband, thereby keeping William at l iw home. , ' 3, W . l. When it came to the Baby-Talk Ladyfs good-bye dance, not to be present was unendurable. William. again got the dress-suit and wore it at the party. Genesis disclosed thefact that the proud garment was in reality his father's, w'hich makes up the story of the play. it if This play wasdirected by Misses Lillie Kuykendall, Jeanon Day ll' and Kate Huey.
