Septembergninteen hundred twenty-three, sixty three boys and girls ly y proudly and triumphantly demanded entrance to Sturgis High Schooli E W While the pupils nervously and impatiently awaited their turn, they re? it called with almost unbelief that they had- piassed through eight years of bumps that had bumped them on to other bumps. They were proud then l ' J I l up that they had conquered the tasks set for them, and could go on to new- ' V er and higher fields of learning iw- LPA gl 'gs n , Ui, f Ais is customary with a freshman Class, we were put up as a target A -i for fun, but we soon' began to lose our self-consciousness and commen- El i . ced making our record. We elected our class officers and they served , l t very efficiently. We put on a show which proved to be a great suc- js' cess. In footballand track we made a splendid showing, while in Or- it atorical and Declamatory Contest we were well represented. Q l l ' I, In th-is, our Sophomore year, we have been equally successful. We fi Mg, ,aj I 1 sent out mere football 'men than any other class and we furnished Cap- ll , ' lil tains for both the main and the sub teams. Q, At the end of the season, we lit had several letter men and had the honor of choosing Virginia Carr Foot- 2, n, it i ball Queen. We lost in the May Queen Contest by only a small majori- wi at i ty and our great success in the Oratorical and Declamatory Contests , .wi , l .gl Ml more than compensated our loss. It was 1n the last contest before the lil , 'l M ,ggi State Meet that Daniel failed to bring home the bacon for us. W C ,I Mi - l iw? 'This year, for the first time in the history of Sturgis High School, the ip l l 71 Sophomore Class will stage a play. Our class has won the reputation of lg, iff! .wig :lil being one of the peppiest andmost successful in years and if Fate con- w 1 er up , g - tinues to favor us, just watch wh-at a Senior class we'll make!
