One of the yearly happenings at Stur- ges Junior High is the Christmas assembly. This year the Childe Jesus, written by Edward Gilay, was presented not only to student body, but an evening performance was given for the parents. The play was a pantomime acted out by the assembly Class while the 8th and 9th grade choruses sang. It was composed of eleven scenes: the Promise, the An- nunciation, the Apparation of the Shep- herds, the Star, the Wise Men, At the Manger, Mary ' s Lullaby, Songs of Devo- tion, Childe Jesus and Adeste Fideles. Portraying Mary, Joseph, the Patriarch, Jeanette and Isabella were Yolanda Car- rillo, Phillip Gaiger, Tommy Gaiger, Lor- inda Britton and Pamela Hazard. The readers were Helen Tanner and Virginia Ragland. fag 37 1

Offi - ' y ractice 4f Office Practice is an elective open to students in eighth and ninth grades. Students are selected for this office on the basis of aptitude and citizenship. They are taught regular office routine, filing procedures , use of the student file and proper use of the office tele- phones. Students are under the direaion of the deans, Mr. Carl Thorsell and Mrs. Mildred Mayer. iUaIa Sponsored by Mr. Donald Moore, the Junior Scientists meet once each week after school in room 118. The pro- gram features discussions of scientific news and reports on other scientific information. ii Pkl Sic — jiama Once again, bur principal, Mr. Laurence Cook, is spon- soring the Stamp Club. The Sigma Phi Sigma Stamp Club is one of the oldest clubs at Srurges. Thi§ club was organ- ized in 1944. Striuing to serve the school and promote an interest in stamps, the club, thereby increases the mem- ber ' s knowledge of the world and its people. fag 39
