Student Council FIRST ROW: Mr. Burgard, Cathy White, Rhonda Smith, Buster Adkisson, Ray Smith, David Cooper, Mr. Johnson. SECOND ROW: Sharon Swiney, Pat Smith, Mike Swincy. Mark Woodruff, Gary Jennings, Steve Dawson. Absent from picture Debbie Blakcmore. Certainly this year’s was one of Sturgeon’s High School’s most active student councils. Under President Ray Smith, Vice-President Buster Adkisson, and Secretary Rhonda Smith, the Council began the job of beginning a student government here. In this we were assisted by the new, student-passed Constitution. This year we saw the first student government school assemblies where all students were given the oppor- tunity to speak openly about student matters. During the fall, the Council joined the Mo. Association of Student Councils. We went to Louisania, Mo. in October for a District Meeting and ran for District Secretary. Of course, the Council sponsored its two yearly dances, the Christmas Dance and the Homecoming Dance. The year ended well with a highly-spirited spring election tor new Council officers for next year. 72
