THE IDEAS THAT GUIDE US A a person becomes mature, he usually develops a philosophy for living; a set of values and beliefs which guide his thoughts and actions. So does a company. The A. B. Chance Company, through the A ™» has evolved its philosophy for living. This philosophy is translated into action every day. So that all of us may understand and be guided in our thinking and actions within its framework, the Company's philosophy is jwt in writing: 1. We believe in and work to preserve the God-given rights of freedom of choice and freedom of action expressed in the Declaration of Independ- ence and guaranteed to Americans in the Bill of Rights. We believe in representative government of, by, and for the people, a government whose powers arc limited to those willingly given by the people through the Constitution. We actively support and encourage individuals and organizations who hold similar beliefs. We strive to help make our nation, and particularly each plant community, a better place in which to live and work by assuming our civic and political responsibilities as a corporate citizen. We encourage our employee to do likewise as in- dividuals. 2. We believe in vigorous, ethical competition within the framework of our free, competitive economy where there are both profits and losses. We prosper by providing useful, high-quality products and reliable service to the electric power and communications industries and other customers. Through these products and services, we fill a need of our society. By performing our functions effectively and efficiently, we make a profit and help those with whom we do business to profit. Our customers are providing vital services, necessary to the growth and progress of our nation and world. We believe in sharing our progress in better products and service with our customers to improve their operations and reduce their costs. 3. We seek to provide useful, stimulating work, plus the opportunity and training for those who have the desire and ability to attain positions of increased responsibility. We believe in sharing our profits with our employees as an incentive in addition to regular wages and salaries. 4. We recognize our responsibility to manage the business efficiently and prudently so that it will be strong financially and capable of providing stability and opportunities for growth. 5.
