When you come to the sixth grade things sure are different! There are new names to learn, new faces to remember, and new things to do. For instance, nobody knows the new librarian, No one knows her name, You can't just say, Hey Mrs. Librarian or Mrs. Books, I need your help . It sounds very impolite, and pretty dumb, too. How many times have you called a teacher by the wrong name? How many times have you wondered who Ms, Kidd is, or is it Mr., you get so confused. Well, now you are in the 7th grade, neat feeling isn't it? You know who Ms. Kidd is, and you remember all of your oth grade teachers names, everybody but Mrs. What-Her-Name, Now you know that Mrs. Runkle is the name of our librarian, and you are faced with the task of learning the names of the new teachers. You have some good friends, some not so good friends, and some people you really don't like at all. But what could go wrong? It seems that in 7th grade all you want to be is an Sth grader. Eighth grade is another name for Aristrcracy. There is Sth grade council, the S.C.A. president, and the sponsored dances. Seventh graders don't do a whole lot. But you do have fun. The football games across the lunch room tables, the skating parties, and the fight for the intramural trophy, are events that stick in our minds. The summer between 7th grade and heaven is waited out with great anticipation. The first day of school finally arrives! We are caught up in a flurry of activity, is it time for elections already? School pictures have come and gone, and Halloween is almost here. Heck. Christmas is just around the corner. We stop to think back over the years. The trips and tests, the lab experiments and the library projects, the teachers and friends. The fun times, the bad times, the ones caught in the middle, all lost in the daily routine. The fights we watched in the bathroom were exciting, but the sentences waiting for us back at the room were not, Projects made in Industrial Arts were interesting, and rocketry class was a real blast. Yes, things are different. We have to grow up sometime, and the middle school is a good place to do it. We come here as kids, and leave as young men and women. Believe it or not we still call teachers by the wrong name now and then, but it doesn't matter that much anymore. We have to face the facts, we are becoming adults, and we have a lot of responsibilities. Thanks to the teachers and administration we have the skills and common sense to cope with our problems. S.D.M.S. helped soften the way when we grew up. I hope it will do this for a long time to come. Z7
