On the bus I have a lot of fun I sit and talk with all my chums. I arrive at school so full of gloom, Because now I am off to homeroom. I go to first period which is P.E. And Mr. Sinclair makes me get all sweaty. In second period, I Let out a shout. The teacher gets mad, and I go to time out. In third period, I have Miss Huffer. She keeps Social Studies from being tougher. Now I go to fourth period, and that's lunch. The sixth graders sure do eat a bunch. Now it's time to study Science, This must be done in total silence. Next I go and study Math. Sometimes we get to have a laugh. In seventh period, I have a lot of fun. Now my school day is all done. Derek Griffith 554 ' .,,,, ,,,. M Wawwwm . . , ...... , 1 . 1.14 f f f W A Sixth Grade Day A typical day? Oh, that's hard to say! So many things go on. But this typical day, thatls so hard to say, Starts out with the alarm. At seven A.M., it's up, up and then, Get ready as fast as you can. You have no time to waste, Or the bus you will chase And you don't want to be in on that race. The doors open wide Hurry, let's get inside. My locker, oh where can it be. Down the hall Along the wall I think it's 103 Silently waiting for me. When the tone sounds It's homeroom we're bound! For just a very short stay Then we move on, and to our dismay, We have to face a very long day! Our day is split in periods you see Before lunch come one, two, and three. During lunch As we talk and munch We realize how time passes. If only lunch could be as long as our classes. Then quickly as lunch has come and gone The remaining three classes Then the final gong, gong . And when that final gong rings clear, You scramble to your bus that's near. When you come to the sixth grade things sure are different! There are new names to learn, new faces to remember, and new things to do. For instance, nobody knows the new librarian, No one knows her name, You can't just say, Hey Mrs. Librarian or Mrs. Books, I need your help . It sounds very impolite, and pretty dumb, too. How many times have you called a teacher by the wrong name? How many times have you wondered who Ms, Kidd is, or is it Mr., you get so confused. Well, now you are in the 7th grade, neat feeling isn't it? You know who Ms. Kidd is, and you remember all of your oth grade teachers names, everybody but Mrs. What-Her-Name, Now you know that Mrs. Runkle is the name of our librarian, and you are faced with the task of learning the names of the new teachers. You have some good friends, some not so good friends, and some people you really don't like at all. But what could go wrong? It seems that in 7th grade all you want to be is an Sth grader. Eighth grade is another name for Aristrcracy. There is Sth grade council, the S.C.A. president, and the sponsored dances. Seventh graders don't do a whole lot. But you do have fun. The football games across the lunch room tables, the skating parties, and the fight for the intramural trophy, are events that stick in our minds. The summer between 7th grade and heaven is waited out with great anticipation. The first day of school finally arrives! We are caught up in a flurry of activity, is it time for elections already? School pictures have come and gone, and Halloween is almost here. Heck. Christmas is just around the corner. We stop to think back over the years. The trips and tests, the lab experiments and the library projects, the teachers and friends. The fun times, the bad times, the ones caught in the middle, all lost in the daily routine. The fights we watched in the bathroom were exciting, but the sentences waiting for us back at the room were not, Projects made in Industrial Arts were interesting, and rocketry class was a real blast. Yes, things are different. We have to grow up sometime, and the middle school is a good place to do it. We come here as kids, and leave as young men and women. Believe it or not we still call teachers by the wrong name now and then, but it doesn't matter that much anymore. We have to face the facts, we are becoming adults, and we have a lot of responsibilities. Thanks to the teachers and administration we have the skills and common sense to cope with our problems.
