PROLOGUE The idea of a high school is not symbolized by the walls of the build¬ ing or the tools of learning that it contains, but it is represented by those who come within these wallg to make use of these tools. Each person contributes individually to the compo¬ site by his thinking, his ideas, and his actions. As individuals mingle in classes, extra-curricular activities and social functions, their person¬ alities merge with the standards of the represented communities and the policies of the school to form the un¬ mistakable image of a high school. Mabel Brown Denizen IN TUI MT1RE OF THINGS. STUDY AND OPPORTUNITY GO TOGETHER; EXCELLENCE IMPLIES a CEITEI. OcccA IS A HIGH SCHOOL.” I In the hands of America’s youth rests much of the responsibility for the future peace, prosperity, and progress of the world. Future decades will see today’s young Americans as the citizens who are molding the policies and building the strength of our nation. Therefore, it is necessary that the adults of today make extra effort to guide and train them well. But youth must realize that the problems of the future will be more difficult to solve than those of the past, and they must determine to grow to maturity as intelligent, well-informed citizens, realizing their heavy responsibility. All of our tomorrows rest in your hands. Care for them well as you work for a stronger and better America and a more peaceful world. So, to you, America’s youth, we dedicate this, The 1961 Jeb. 8 3eaf ur es... Page 20 Activities ... Page 28 Atdletics... Page 34 Aaminisi ration. Page Cl asses.... Price OUR EVER-PRESENT CHALLENGE The prosperity and individual freedoms we enjoy today are hard- earned gifts from our forefathers and must never be taken for granted. Each new generation must stand on its own feet and preserve these freedoms. The freedoms we enjoy through the American Way have a high price and must be earned over and over. W. Somerset Maugham expresses it this way: If a nation values anything more than freedom, it will lose its freedom; and the irony of it is that if it is comfort or money that it values more, it will lose that, too.
