Class Hi tory On September 3 1940 M1ss Julllard undertook to teach us Readln , R1t1n and 'R1thmat1c Th1rteen students Fred Brandon, Patr1c1a Carl1n, Stanley Carpenter Nancy Fleagle Mur1el Harvey Duane Jolly Roger McCord Jeanette Nafz1ger Duane Osborn, Marlene Short Norma Stuckey R1chard Sulllvan and Joanne Warner have been w1th us all 12 years to rece1ve the1r dlplomas M1ss Vermer, our second grade teacher, set us a good example 1n wr1t1ng and our other sub-yects and then passed us on to the thxrd grade Nancy E1cher and Joan Wlutlock Joxned us durmg th1s year In the th1rd grade M155 Stock greeted us and contmued our educatlon Ted Rupp came 1n our grade th1s year We entered the fourth grade where M1ss Bolles worked wxth us and after n1ne months along w1th the new comer Darrell Goebel, she sent us on the way of the f1fth grade Our flfth grade teacher M1ss Rupp tr1ed hard to keep us on the rxght track Th1s year Delor1s Andres 3o1ned our fold We fmally reached the s1xth grade th1nk1ng qu1te a lot of ourselves as we were the oldest 1n the grade bu1ld1ng Mrs Louys gave up and sent us across e way to the hlgh school After a couple of weeks 1n h1gh school we f1nally found out where our classes were Th1s year we had several new members Jo1n1ng our class Charles and Rlchard Hancock, and Marvm F1sh Mr Warren was our sponsor for both the seventh and e1ghth grade Chester Huffman and Verlene Buehrer came 1nto our class th1s year F1nally we entered H1gh School under the gu1dance of Mrs Merr1ll We selected as our Pres1dent, Duane Jolly V1ce Pres1dent, Jeanette Nafz1ger Secretary Joanne Warner Treasurer Roger McCord Reporters Delor1s Andres and Joyce Baker H1gh lmght of th1s year was Freshman 1n1t1at1on whlch we all enjoyed Mary Deepe became a student 1n our class th1s year The Sophomore year went smoothly w1th MHTVID Flsh Pres1dent D1ck Hancock, V1ce Pres1dent Jeanette Nafz1ger Secretary I..aDonna Batt Treasurer and Norma Stuckey Reporter and our sponsor was M1ss Dommer Our new members and Donna Rowan We came a l1ttle closer to our goal of graduatlng when we were Junrors Our Pres1dent was Marv1n Fmsh V1ce Pres1dent Nancy Fleagle Secretary Jeanette Nafz1ger Treasurer Norma Stuckey and Reporter Murlel Harvey The h1gh hght of th1s year was the Jumor Semor Banquet, and we worked hard to show the Senlors a good t1me Summer vacat1on was soon over, and we were back to school for our last year of school Th1s year we were the m1ghty Senlors and enjoyed lt very much Our off1cers were Pres1dent, Marv1n F1sh V1ce Presldent Darrell Goebel Secretary Jeanette Nafz1ger Treasurer Norma Stuckey and Reporter Mur1e1 Harvey Important happemngs of th1s year was the Jumor Sen1or Banquet Baccalaureate Commencement and the A1umn1 Banquet The class wxshes to thank our sponsor Mrs Sharrock for all she has done for us durmg the year To all these people our parents the faculty board of educat1on, and any others who have helped us dur1ng our years at Stryker H1gh School, We the class of '52 say 'Thank You, from the bottom of our hearts Norma Stuckey Jeanette Nafz1ger Stanley Carpenter 'fl Q. l If -EMG W . . . , . . , . . ., , . - . Looking Ahead It IS the sprmg of 1967 Yesterday was the annual Homecommg Day at Stryker H1gh School wh1ch was held 1n the h1gh school bu1ld1ng Hav1ng graduated from Stryker 1n 1952 I would have l1ked to returned for the Homecom1ng Day but It was 1mposs1ble because of my Job As I sat, th1nk1ng of my old classmates I fell asleep I dreamed I was back 1n Stryker ready to walk 1nto the school bu1ld1ng As I walked up to the door lt was opened by Stanley Carpenter who was the doorman I walked 1n and followed the crowd to the gym It was a beaut1ful s1ght br1ght l1ghts confettla and decoratlons of all sorts I walked up to the fu-st stand, wh1ch was the fortune tellers stand I recogn1zed the fortune teller as Donna Sh1nners A b1g attract1on 1n one corner was Darrell Goebel, d1splay1ng some of h1s farm products wh1ch are large on1ons I Jomed a group of people around a platform 1n another corner of the gym D1ck Sull1van was 1ntroduc1ng the famous Hancock Brothers Chuck and D1ck who then proceeded w1th thelr danc1ng act Next was a t1ght rope act by B111 Nofz1ger Back of me a balloon man was desperately try1ng to sell balloons I recog n1zed h1m as Marv1n F1Sh I saw Chester and Thelma Huffman w1th whom I V1S1tCd w1th a Whlle They told me they are l1v1ng on a farm south of Stryker I walked 1nto the new dress1ng room, wh1ch had a sw1mm1ng pool 1n lt Here Mur1el Harvey was try1ng to teach sw1mm1ng to the younger generat1on Verlene Buehrer was the hfe guard In the hall Ted Rupp was try1ng to sell popcorn As I walked on down the hall I met Duane Osborn who seemed 1n qu1te a hurry When I asked h1m what the rush was he told me that he and h1s ass1stant Professor Roger McCord were go1nU back to the laboratory to f1n1sh the1r expenments on runn1ng cars on water I went back 1nto the gym to hear the band play The d1rector Duane Jolly who was one of the famous band d1rectors of the day After hav1ng looked around the gym, I dec1ded to walk upsta1rs to see what was go1ng on 1n the aud1tor1um At the door I met another classmate Pat Carl1n She sa1d she owns a 5 10 cent store 1n Stryker and expects to start one 1n Evansport soon I sat down bes1de I..aDonna Batt who told me she 15 supemntendent of nurses at the Kettle Run Sanator1um owned by Donna Rowan As I walked 1nto the aud1tor1um, Mary Deepe ushered me to my seat Just then the curta1ns opened and Nancy E1cher the super1ntendent of the Stryker H1gh School 1ntroduced the speaker of the even1ng, Fred Brandon, who 15 the speaker of the House of Representat1ves at Wash1ngton He 15 better known as long w1nded Brandon After talk1ng an hour and a half Fred f1n1shed h1s speech and we were enterta1ned by the famous concert p1an1st Joan Wh1t1ock She played The Fl1ght of the Lady Bug composed by another of my old classmates Delor1s Andres The next number on the program was g1ven by the r1s1ng opera star, Marlene Short Marlene was accompan1ed by Norma Stuckey who 15 pres1dent of R1vers1de Un1VCTS1tY Jeanette Nofz1ger made the next appearance she played her gu1tar and sang a popular western song The program ended Wlth Joanne Warner tw1r11ng four batons at once As I was leav1ng I met Nancy Fleagle, and she told me that she now runs a restaurant Suddenly I awoke from my dream, and wondered 1f my dream really could be true Nancy E1cher Pat Carl1n 6 D1ck Sull1van Chester Huffman C 2gfJv5f 13 0 .
