M1ss Vermer also taught us more wr1t1ng Wouldn t we be mce wrxters Lf we had followed her example? Durmg the year Helen Warren and Gene Th1el Jo1ned our l1ttle group M1ss Vernxer hav1ng seen we were such a br1ll1ant set of chlldren sent us on to the th1rd grade After three months of vacat1on we agaun took up the strlngs of our educatlon We were then welcomed by M1ss R1ngenberg s open arms We were rather slow 111 gett1ng used to the 1dea of shorter noons and more studies Arlene Hayes was our lxttle wh1st11ng g1rl V1ola Buehrer Jomed the class th1s year After g1v1ng up M1ss R1ngen berg dec1ded to send us on to the fourth grade In the fall of 39 M1ss Sprmg at least pretended to be glad to have us 1n her room All the grade espec1a1ly the boys enjoyed the doll collect1on wh1ch a fr1end of M1ss Sprmg showed to us Jun Nofzlger aga1n returned to the fold after spendmg a year 1n Cahfornla M1ss Sprlng was glad when the year was over We were not overly anxlous to enter the fifth grade because of the rumors we had heard of M1ss Whltla and the fxfth grade We soon found out that the rumors we had heard were not true We all appreclated M1ss Whxtla s teach1ng and advlce wh1ch she gave us We must have been qu1te a group because th1s was her last year of teach1ng at Stryker Margaret Toland Jomed the group and do you remember those long curls? On to the s1xth grade we journeyed Our Journey s end was the slxth vrade for the next n1ne months M1ss Rupp was our guxde th1S year We felt bmg as we were the oldest 1n the grade bu1ld1ng Do you remember the tune when Jolene had the opportunlty to explore the hall? For more mformatlon ask her I Th1s year Jean Gentlt and Robert Hzldebrandt entered our 11ttle haven of rest W1th our over abundance of 1ntell1gence and knowledge we were advanced to the seventh grade When we entered the Seventh Grade we had many changes to whlch we were confused w1th the number of rooms to wh1ch we were to go M1 s Schultz and M1ss Hammond trled to help us strazghten out our many problems and dlffxcultzes M1ss Hammond surely was good at Wrltlng class news, don t you thlnk so Huntz? Lynnett Schultz and Donald Stevens Jomed our class th1S year So passed our f1rst year 1n the new bulldmg In the fall we aga1n returned to take up the dut1es of our educat1on th1s tune to be Elghth Graders Mr Warren and Mrs Fraker were our teachers th1s year We were all very much saddened when our classmate Mary Goll, was clauned by death m February 1944 Th1s year we took the Elghth Grade test Ne al' came through w1th fa1rly good grades At the end of the year we were gxven our Exghth Grade Dzploma and so that meant the next year we would be Freshman . D . , . . . : , . . . 1 A ' THE PROPHECY OF THE CLASS OF 48 How the tune does fly I remarked to my husband this mormng at breafast Has it really been fxfteen whole years smce I graduated from Good Old Stryker Hi ? never realized xt so much until l went to visxt Helen lwarrenj Frank and her family over the week end Helen and Leland mvited me to their home on Mars for the week end and I jumped at such a chance They were some of the earlrer settlers xn the small communxty of Rekyrts, Mars It was really quite an experience for me sxnce xt was to be my first trap to Mars I left the azrport here In Stryker at l 35 and arrxved at Mars shortly after 6 00 My trnp was made very pleasant by the kind and thoughful hostess I notxced how strangely she glanced at me as I got aboard and for some reason I thought I should know her When she came to my seat I began a conversatxon wzth her I mentxoned that Stryker was my home town, and she said she was so happy she could have kxssed me because that had been her old home town Come to fmd out she was one of my old classmates Joan Sharrnan We began to discuss the other members of our class She told me the former Helen Lorentz was now in partnership with her husband xn the airplane busmess We were now on one of their planes and Helen herself was the pilot Little dxd I know this was only a begxnmng of a reunion of some of my old classmates When we reached Rekyrts, Mars I was greeted by Helen and Leland Who do you suppose was with them? None other than Ilean Atlas Surunons now Mayor of Rekyrts She had been a Senator ln the States for exght years but lxfe wasn t exc1t1ng enough for her U1 that capacity so she moved xnto somethmg she felt she could handle better Sxnce Ilean was so glad to see me she deczded to show me the town that evemng To my great surprise I found out that at our servxce was Oscar s Superlor Cab Company owned and operated by Robert I-hldebrandt hirnself As a specxal treat Bob was goxng to drive our cab First of all we had dmner at Hayes I-Iash House Under the supervzsmon of our gracxous hostess Arlene Hayes we had a most thrlllmg evenzng We dxned and danced to the melodxous muslc of Sam and his Swoonful Seven Sarn Stevens of course After our delicious dinner we journeyed to the Interplanetary Premier of Dale Partee s latest Palace Production at Barnlgue Hall This movxe was produced dzrected and fxlmed by Palace Productions by Partee The Star of this picture was none other than that wonderful hunk of man Wxlllam Annette better known to hxs admiring public as Skip Has former secretary and now leading lady, Vxola Buehrer was all the picutre needed to be perfect After this delightful time we went to catch a bit to eat at one of the Schmucker s Astoria Hotels I D ll ' ll ' , s ' ' ll ll I 1 . s f Q 0 - . n s - . . s . - . J imxny Divine alias Jim Nofziger. As an added attraction for the weekend Lynnette Schultz the great Metropolitan Opera Star, had stopped off on a tour of all the principal cities of Mars We bade our host, LaVon, good night and were on our way home for some much needed sleep Not being used to so much excitement all ln one evening my bed was really a welcome sight.
