Game 1. - ' SHS 7 Cleveland East 18 Turnovers hurt the Wildcats .on their opening night. A fumble was returned 49 yards and an inter- ception 63 yards for Cleveland's first two scores. The Blue Bombers scored once again in the second half, but were denied even a first down in the last two quarters. The Wildcats came back on a scoring run by QB Phil Murphy from one yard out capping a 63 yard drive, but it wasn't enough as Cleveland held on to win. Game 4. SHS 14 Ursuline 17 With six minutes left in the game, Ursuline's Mark Flora booted a 22 yard field goal to give the Irish a 17-14 victory before some 5,000 fans at Struthers Stadium. The game was actually considered an Ursuline home game. It was a closely fought contest with both teams showing strong defenses and scoring two touchdowns a piece. Flora's placement ended the dead- lock and gave the Irish the win. ksf 3 '1 Game 2. SHS 14 Wilson 12 i Before a small rained-soaked crowd the Redmen stung the Cats with a 47 yard bomb to take a 6 point lead. The Cats retaliated with a 66 yard scoring drive capped off by Tyrone Miner's one yard dash to paydirt. Tom Blangero's kick gave Struthers a 7-6 lead. Wilson scored once more before the half, but the Wildcats came out in the second half fired up and shut out the Redmen. Mike Nittoli's interception set up a five yard lim Baluck TD and Blangero's kick clinched the victory. Game 5 P SHS 6 Boardman 28 The Boardman Spartans stunned the Cats by scoring 19 points in the first half and holding on to win 28-6. Struthers' only score came on a iPhil Murphy pass to Paul Colaluca for 7 yards com- pleting a 70 yard drive in 10 plays. The Spartans totally dominated play throughout the game, but the scoring drive fired up the Cats. However, it came too late as the game was already out of hand and the Cats lost their fourth game in five outings. JP - ' Game 3. A SHS 3 llustintown Fitch 13 After an unsuccessful first possession by Struthers, Fitch went 90 yards in 12 plays to take the lead, 6-0. Phil Murphy and Dan Beaver connected on a few short aeriels to bring the Wildcats into field goal range. lim Clark's placement and Tom Blangero's 35 yard boot through the uprights gave the Cats momentum and pulled them within three. Then disaster struck as Fitch's Mike Trgovac blocked a punt with 15 seconds left in the first half. The ball was recovered in the end zone by Fitch's Steve Corbett which gave them a 13-3 lead and proved to be the margin of victory. W ,.. -1 1. , .
