Coach Dick Prest oversaw the training of his sixteen member squad Ctwelve of which were underclassmenj and then watched them break eleven school records. Clhere are only four- teen eventslj Junior Bonnie Beachy was unde- feated in her 440, setting the Steel Valley record at 60.7 seconds and qualifying in the Sectionals for a trip to Districts at Kent. Bon- nie also won the 220 at the SVC meet and placed fourth in the Sectionals, thus earning a lane at Kent for that event. The squad will only lose three seniors next spring and will surely better its present 1-8 record. Team .f-aim, is.vervfttimieerteuei ,eSP9f1a'lYiQQU.es the Q Jil Struthers has always been very weak in track, but this season the coach, Rob Conklin, and his assistant, Ron Pagano, felt they had achieved one of their primary goals. Although the team was composed mainly of inexper- ienced underclassmen and had less than an admirable record, it was a source of pride and achievement for its members. The seniors, Max Belchyk, lim Folino, Ken Goist, Lyn Rod- riguez, and Dan Woodward, were especially instrumental in making younger competitors aware of their potential. By gaining experience this year, those juniors and sophomores will compete even more effectively next season. Some of the track team keeps in shape by running cross country in the fall. Traversing a rugged two-mile course, these runners brave the elements, the environment, and the criti- cism of Coach Jerry Seem. Tony Jordan, a junior, was Struthers' best runner in cross country, he was also the track team's best miler and broke the school record in the two- mile-twice in the same week! Congradulations are in order for Tony and for all the dedicated spikers.
