Football S.H.S.-3 Alliance-0 Starting off the 1966 football season in good fashion, Coach Bob Commings' mighty Wildcats upset the heralded Alliance avia- tors for the third year in a row. Kicking specialist, Ed Craft, booted a 24-yard field goal in the second quarter to take home a victory for the Cats. Defensive tackle, Jeff Pantall, Chris Ellis, and defensive back, Vince Suber, did a fine job in containing the Aviators. S.1'1.S.-18 East-12 The Struthers Wildcats rallied for two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to defeat the East Golden Bears as quarterback Vince Suber tossed for three touchdowns. In the second quarter, a Suber-to-Spano pass covering 4-O yards netted the Cats their first score. . Junior, Neil Lawn, grabbed Suber's other two scoring passes from 25 and 16 yards out. The defensive work of senior 'center Lou Vargin and guard Dave Nackino aided the Wildcat victory. S.1-1.5.-28 Brookfield-6 Struthers launched its Steel Valley Conference competition with an impressive 28-6 victory over the Brookfield Warriors. Veteran quarterback Vince Suber kept the Brookfield defense guessing on keeper plays, as he scored two touchdowns on runs of one and five yards. Hard-nosed Andy Mogulich and speedy John Spano tallied for the other two scores on runs of 12 and 3 yards, respectively. In the third quarter, the Cats tacked on a safety as the Brookfield punter was forced into the end zone.

Wzldcats Claw ut 7 S.H.S.-28 Girard-0 The Wildcats made it four in a row as they ripped out- classed Girard, 28 to 0. Junior fullback, Dennis Bogdone, spearheaded the attack as he scored two T.D. from the two and four-yard lines. Talented Vince Suber started the ball rolling as he rambled 22 yards for a first period T.D., and later added the conversion points after Bogdoneis second touchdown. Neal Lawn capped the evening's point making ,on a nifty 17-yard run to paydirt. Ed Craft hauled in a pass for the conversion. Senior back, Carl Finamore, and linebacker, Terry Stocker, played a tremendous game on defense. S.H.S.-14 Fitch-38 The Austintown Fitch Falcons upset the Struthers Wild- cats in an important Steel Valley tilt with a convincing 38- 14- triumph. The Cats were hampered when ace quarterback, Vince Suber, injured his ankle on the first play of the game, but that didn't stop him from scoring the Cats first touch- down. Struthers led in the statistics, but numerous fumbles and pass interceptions hurt them. The Cats added their sec- ond touchdown with 53 seconds left, on a 32-yard scamper by Don Clontz, who took over as quarterback for the in- jured Suber. S.H.S.-42 Wilsori-8 Sophomore quarterback Don Clontz, substituting for the injured Vince Suber, played an outstanding game as his fine faking completely baffled the Wilson defenses. Senior halfback John Spano was the leading ground gainer as he compiled 133 yards in 17 carries, ripping off touchdown gallops of 59 and 7 yards. ' Neal Lawn, displaying tremendous running ability, also featured in the Wildcat's attack as he tallied twice, one a spectacular 72-yard scoring play, and the other, a 53-yd. scamper to pay-dirt on a neatly-executed double reverse.
