Ben Bruno shoots one-handed jump shot. Tom Perkins shoots another for the Wildcats. S.H.S. 52 CIRARD 39 Struthers journeyed to Girard where they scalped the lndians 52-39. The Wildcats played a good all- around game. Gentile did a good job on the boards and also pumped in 13 points. Sicafuse also had 13 markers. However, Tom Perkins was high scorer as he bombarded the hoops for 15 points. S.H.S. 35 BOARDMAN 36 Playing at home once more Struthers lost a thriller to Boardman 36-35. This was truly the outstanding game ol the year as far as excitement was concerned. Struthers held a 21-20 lead at the half, but fell behind and with time out and four seconds remaining, Struthers was losing by 1 point. As play commenced Tom Per- kins shot from -10 feet out, but the ball rolled off the hoop. Sicafuse kept Struthers in the game with 17 points. S.H.S. 59 CAMPBELL MEMORIAL 73 At the Campbell gym the Wildcats absorbed their fourth Steel Valley loss 73-59. Struthers started out badly but rallied to pull within 3 points at the outset of the final period. Campbell, however, pulled away in the final quarter. Perkins and Bruno put in 19 and 18 points, respectively, for the Cats. S.H.S. 58 FITCH 64 Playing at home Struthers fell victim to the Fitch Falcons 64-58. The game was tied several times in the early moments, but Fitch pulled away to a comfortable halftime lead. Early in the fourth quarter Fitch held a commanding 61-39 lead, but then the Wildcats got hot and outscored Fitch 19-3 in the closing minutes. Tom Perkins rimmed 22. S.H.S. 31 NILES 46 The Wildcats were downed by the Niles Red Dragons 46-31. Struthers fell behind at the outset 9-1 and never recovered. Joe Budzik had 7 points. S.H.S. 49 HUBBARD 41 ln their next game the Wildcats trimmed the visiting Hubbard Eagles 49-41. The first half saw neither team gain an advantage. Struthers came in strong in the second half to cop the fray. Ben Bruno meshed 22 for the Cats. S.H.S. 82 GIRARD 45 Eleven players hit the scoring column in leading the Wildcats to a smashing 82-45 triumph over Girard. Struthers attained a convincing victory leading 43-17 at halftime. Perkins, Watt, and Bruno had 22, 13, and 12 points, respectively. S.H.S. 55 BOARDNIAN 41 Playing great basketball the Wildcats trounced Board- man 55-41. Struthers took the lead early in the second quarter and held throughout the game. Ben Bruno had 17 markers for the Wildcats. S.H.S. 39 CAMPBELL MEMORIAL 43 Playing their last regular season game the Wildcats lost out in a grueling duel with their rivals from Campbell 43-39. Campbell led at halftime 20-16 and started to pull away, but the Wildcats caught fire and almost tied the winners. Pudgie:' Kosco scorched the mesh for 20 points.

Ben Bruno goes in for an easy lay-up shot. Tom Perkins hoops a well executed jump shot. Don Sicafuse battles for a rebound. S.H.S. 46 RAYEN 62 ln opening their 1957-58 basketball season the Wild- cats were defeated by Rayen 62--16. The Rayen Tigers led 31-22 at halftime and breezed home to victory. Leading the Struthersi attack was 'LPudgie7' Kosco with 16 points. S.H.S. 45 CARDINAL MOONEY 34 Playing their first home game the Wildcats pleased the partisan gallery with a 45-3-l triumph over Cardinal Mooney. Struthers controlled the boards throughout and made a nifty 46? of their shots. Nick Gentile sparked the MCats attack caging 13 markers. S.H.S. 35 SALEM 58 ln their third game of the season the Wildcats were routed by the visiting Salem Quakers 58-35. The first period ended with the score tied at 10 all, but from there on it was all Salem. Fred Costello hit for 13 points to pace the Wilclcats. SHS. 34 EAST 4-7 The Wildcats journeyed to Youngstown East only to be defeated 47-34. Struthers held a 16-12 lead at half: time but East ralliecl'in the second half to win handily. Nick Gentile-hooped 15 points to lead the Wildcats, scoring. S.H.S. 58 WILSON 48 Playing in the friendly confines of the Struthers Field- house the Wildcats jolted Wilson 58-46. The game was a nip and tuck thrill most of the way, but the Wildcats exploded with a 23-point barrage in the final quarter. Gentile was high scorer for the HCats,, as he fired in 20 points. S.H.S. 49 WARREN 71 The Wildcats absorbed their fourth defeat of the season at the hands of the Warren Black Panthers 71-49. Struthers stayed in contention throughout most of the first half, but Warren came alive to take a 31-24 halftime lead and then pulled away in the second half. Kosco, Gentile, and Sicafuse scored 11, 11, and 10 points, respectively. S.H.S. 64 FITCH 76 Traveling to Fitch the Wildcats took a 76-64 thump- ing. Struthers couldn't seem to get going in their Steel Valley encounter and fell behind. Gentilels 17-point barrage was the Wildcats' only bright spot. S.H.S. 38 NILES 30 Playing a deliberate type game the Wildcats toppled Niles 38-30. Struthers won the game at the foul line hitting on 18 of 26 free throws. Bruno gunned in 12 points to pace the Struthersf attack. S.H.S. 29 HUBBARD 39 ln an away game the Wildcats bowed to the Hub- bard Eaglcs 39-29. Struthers held a 17-15 lead at half- time but were outscored 2-li points to 12 in the second half. Ben Bruno again was outstanding for Struthers hooping 12 points.

Landgraff was third in the 220 and fourth in the broad jump. Richard Simon, after being out of action for the whole year, placed third in the half mile. Gene Valentine and Joe Carlucci placed fourth and fifth in the shot put in the Steel Valley Meet. -W e,...,....
