CLASS HISTORY The month was September and the year was 1954. You were a part of the crowd that was standing outside Struthers High School. Finally, the doors opened and you were swept into the activity of the freshman year. Your class officers for that year were Benny Bruno, presidentg Nick Gentile, vice presidentg Eleanore Liptak, secretary: and Janet Heckert, treasurer. Mr. Robert Hauge was a very cooperative sponsor. Re- member that first skating party at Kelly's in Columbiana, Ohio. Next came a class dance and then a school dance called the Hobo Hop. The hop was held at Sexton Street gym and Billy Farrell, a top recording star. made a special guest appearance. Who will forget escaping from study hall to wash walls as a part of the Clt-an+Up campaign? The month was again Septemberg but the year. 1955. This year you were better acquainted with the other members of your class and with S.H.S. The new class officers were Dave 'Wil1iams, presidentg Tom Eckman, vice president: Tom Mclntire, secretary: and Don Sicafuse, treasurerg with Mr. Gene Janecko as sponsor. Everyone had a fun-filled time at the Halloween party. which featured such funny and clever costumes, including that of a mummy. Another skating party and a post-basketball game dance rounded out the memorable activities of your sophomore year. September, 1956, marked the beginning of your all important junior year. When class president Carol Keiffer moved to another school, Angela Augustine was elected to the office. Benny Bruno was vice presidentg Rachel Heldman. secretary: and Pat Evans, treasurer. Hrs. Sylvia Scholl, Miss Margurite Tigue, and Mr. Tom Phillips store in the boiling sun the blustery cold crying to get soaked at a car the ,Iunior4Senior Prom. served as class sponsors. The sponsors were Mrs. Mary DeGenova and Mr. Arleigh Westerbeck. Always to be remembered highlights were the New Yearis party at the Old Barn. the trip to the Ice Follies, the Junior-Senior Prom. Remember the senior picnic, senior banquet. and Baccalaureate? What were your thoughts as you cheered at the last pep assembly? As you looked up at the student body at the Senior Assembly, did it bring back some of these wonderful memories you had as an underclassman? The day was June 2 and the year 1958. You marched slowly and nostalgically from the commencement service along with dear and long-to-be-remembered friends., and that September morning in 1954 suddenly seemed like yesterday. 11 K 's
