THEODORE A. METZLER This year the top spot in class ranking goes to Theodore Metzler. Ted, having taken the college entrance course, led the senior class of 1958 with a 3.91 average to take the Valedictorian position. Behind him he leaves a long list of achievements worthy of four years of high school well spent. His scholastic attainments include three times representing Struthers in the Mount Union Tests and receiving the Bausch S Lomb Science Award. He also has been four times winner of the American Legion Essay Con- test. His crowning achievements in scholarship are ranking in the upper five per cent of the state in the Ohio State Scholar- ship Test for Seniors and also becoming one of the few Struthers students to receive relognition on the National Merit Scholarship Test. In addition Ted is active in speech. Besides being president of the National Forensic League, in which he holds the degrees of Distinction. he has made a fine record in speech competition. Active in both debate and individual speaking events, he won the state championship in extemporaneous speaking last year. In the Prince of Peace Contest he has also been a district winner twice. Aside from these many activities, Ted is a hard-working member of many school clubs. He is vice president of the Ductorian HisY and a member of the Engineers' Club. Ted plans to attend Denison University where he will major in history and philosophy. I I I The position of Salutatorian for the senior class of 1958 goes to David Williartis. Dave, also a college entrance student, took the second ranking position with a 3.31 average. Dave, too, is very active and like Ted ranks high in scholastic attainment. Among his scholastic achievements are receiving thc Bausch Sz Lomb Science Award and representing Struthers in the Mount Union Scholarship Tests. In ninth grade. he took General Scienceg tenth, Latin Ilg and in eleventh, Chemistry. Placing in the upper five per cent of the state in the Ohio General Scholar- ship Test for Seniors ranks highest of his achievements. Besides his scholastic activities, Dave enjoys membership in many school organizations. Foremost of these is the National Honor Society in which he is vice president. He is also secretary- treasurer of the Ductorians Hi-Y and a member of the stage crew and Engineers' Club. Dave plans to attend M.I.T. where he will study to become a nuclear physicist. DAVID A. You, the energetic senior class. have eooperated together in a variety of activities this yearg thus making your senior year a very profitable one. -Remember at the football games how you stood out in the cold uttering your ery fierce and hold. 'LConcessions! Get your concessions here! You really worked hard on those concessions. You hrayecl anything-Cold weather. flu-anything-to get those eoneessions sold to the people. A great asset to you was our winning football team. After the Rayen game. rememlier how you sponsored the first reeord hop of the year? The Kickoff tl1at's what you called it. And A'Tlie Kickoff it was. The record hop was so successful that it has set a preeedent for all other classes to follow. Then. you had a series of ear washes throughout the year. You may have come home a little wet, but you made quite a profit on them. You sold screwdrivers during the Christmas holidays. As seniors you did so many other things. The Ice Follies trip to Cleveland, the Senior Banquet in May. You the senior class have worked together well. You have had many varied and successful projects. The willingness to work and the cooperation that you the Class of 1958 have shown will always be an example for all classes to follow.
