A person in individual events is entirely on his ownf, The individual speaker may enter one of several categories: oratorieal. dramatic. or humorous decla- niation: original oratory, or extemporaneous speak- ing. ln all these events. Struthers was well-represented. Most novice speakers entered oratorical declamation to gain more speaking experience: however. the older speakers joined the other. more difficult cate- gories. :X series of practice tournaments was held during the early months of the year. Those obtaining the highest ratings then obtained the chance to partici- pate in the Ohio High School Speech League and National Forensic League district finals. lndividual events is also sponsored hy lVlrs. Working for our principal, Mr. Wfayne Grinnen. they operate the electrical equipment, such as the lights and puhlic address system.
