DR. ROBERT BROWN For forty-five years Dr. Brown has served Stroudsburg as teacher, vice principal, super- vising principal, and, for the past twelve years, superintendent of schools. To his varied duties he has brought a devotion for which we and our community may well be grateful. N0 task was too small to warrant Dr.Brownis personal attention. None became so large as to over- shadow the need of the student. Himself a graduate of 5.1-1.3. in 1899, Dr. Brown attended the Normal School, then Lafayette where he was granted an AB. degree in 1905. In the same year he became vice principal of S.H.S., succeeding Will Ramsey t0 the principalship in 1914. Since then the super- vision of the entire school system has been his responsibility. In 1938 he became superintendent of our schools when Stroudsburg was made an independent district, which position he now leaves. Robert Brown grew with his job and the high scholastic standing of the Stroudsburg School System is mute evidence of his ability. Columbia University conferred an A.M. degree in Political Science on him in 1915 and the Ph.D. in the same field in 1923. He spent two summers abroad studying at the University of Berlin and the University of Dresden. With the organization of the Kiwanis locally, he became a charter member. He is also a member of the Monroe County Historical Society, having served in the ohices of president and secretary, often appearing on programs with speeches on Monroe Countyis background. He has always been a faithful member of the Stroudsburg Presbyterian Church, where he has been Superintendent of the Sunday School, Trustee, and now Elder. Dr. Brown is also a Mason. We shall miss our daily contacts with Dr. Brown. His smile was as ready as his counsel was wise; his sympathy as deep as his learning. To him we say, Good health and long years of happiness. The 1950 Pioneer
