I O A . . a PRINCIPAL'Q MUSSAFE The value of a high school annual must be measured by its contribu t1OH to the total educ tional process of the school If, in produclng a yearbook the pupils have benefited educat1onally,then the production of the annual has been a success On the other hand 1f the production of an annual has not contributed to the educational a1ms of the school then it has been a failure It 1s the opimon of your principal that while engaged in he 'bu1ld 1ng of this book you have learned many sk1lls and attitudes that are vorthuhile sad wholesale. You have found e means of expressing lone creative talent is developing the theme and planning the Oiliflllo The power of expression has been developed through the various printed pages You have learned to discriminate in assembling the materials. You have learned to submerge self and cooperate in a group endeavor for the benefit of a project larger than self Some of you now know what it means to present a much cherished idea to a group and find yourself forced to give up a little in order to conform to the will of the group Perhaps the greatest value of ll has been the lesson that to do anything worth while requires a lot of hard, consecrated work and the wholehearted cooperation of all concerned. You have worked hard, you have cooperated, the community has been generous in its financial sup- port and I believe you have 1n this book s job well done. Your 1mmediate interest in thi book is probably concerned more w1th how many times your picture ap ears and how many times your name is mentioned, but in later years your interest will not be in what the book offers you at the moment but what you had to offer to the book. If you were consecrated to your job and grve to it your best, then this book alll always be a cherished record of your high school life. At the Penny Carnival M rw Lou McMillan and Donald Gilliland were chosen to represent the Juniors as candidates for king and queen Al though thev failed to capture the colors,we're proud to call these two passengers 1n our Model T All year we've been looking forward to theevent that crowns every Junior and Senior with a wre th of remembrance, our Junior Senior ban Quet For the last few weeks plans have been made, and all of us have been working feverishly on decorations and doing our best to make this a banquet worthy of our fondest memories. And so another bumpy roed is ended for us. Next year will be the last one for our group to travel together in our S. H S. In order to provide practical training for future homemakers each virl is required, as a part of the homemakin program, to complete a home experience Each g1rl selects a problem in her home, and with the help of her family and teacher works on it until she feels it has been successfully completed. Some of the experiences completed this year were planning ward- robes for the Senior trip, budgeting personal expense accounts, plan- ning the wiring and buying electrical equipment for a farm home, room redecoration, gardening, food preparation, and garment construction. The Sophomore and Junior girls will continue working on their experi- ences during the summer. Thus, each girl develops ability and judgment in assuming a part of the responsibility of the home, and the work in the classroom is keyed to the activities in the home. gg'- T 'o1I . By far the greatest emphasis in the agriculture department is ylacod on projects By constant effort and a gradual building pro cess the number of projects carried has been increased to an average of 3 per student. The quality of projects also has been greatly im proved and more and more emphasis is placed on showing. Last year the boys exhibited stock at the Sectional Voc tional Agriculture B?ur which was held at Yates City and also at the Henderson County F ir Over S300 in prize money was won at the fairs and with the improvement of stock that is evident these W1n.1ngS should be much higher in the future Recently, steps have been taken to organize a Swine Breeders association for the boys having registered swine The purposes of the organization are to promote the use of cooperative breeding stock, improve sales of stock, and to increase amount of publicity and advertising. The President the association is Donald Annegerlg the Vice President is Lee Sebeng and the Secretary-Treasurer is Bernard Galbraith. V ' Y , S -' ' - :'2:s- '- '- 0 LT 7'l'- i T 'iF ,, ,,.,....
