Mrs. MacKrell Receives Mrs. Elizabeth MacKrell The month was September, the year was 1958. In the course of this month, two important events took place which would, over the course of the years, affect the lives of many people, each one in its own way. The satellite “Sputnik” was launched previewing a technological age and Elizabeth MacKrell was assigned to Strong Vincent in the field of Biology. While the orbiting satellite was the forerunner of others that would affect millions of lives, Mrs. MacKrell, in her untiring efforts, would affect the lives of thousands of students who she came in contact with over the years. When not busily engaged in biological lectures and labs, she found time to chair variety shows, transport athletes, and anything else that was asked of her. After receiving further degrees, Mrs. MacKrell was assigned to the Federal Counseling Program, and left S.V. for 1 semester to implement the program at the Gridley Junior High School. She returned to Strong Vincent in the spring of 1967, and has been associated with the guidance program since that time. Along the way she became girls athletic director and again did an admirable job in establishing this program. As the era of the “Sputnik” ended, so does this era we have all been so fortunate to have experienced. In June of this year, Mrs. MacKrell will be leaving Strong Vincent for the world of retirement and relaxation. So, as she sits and “watches the birds” and “listens to the grass grow”, we must all reflect on the impact and influence she has made on the lives of each student she counseled, taught, and cared for. With deep gratitude, the 1985-86 Spokesman staff dedicates our yearbook to Elizabeth MacKrell.
