ur Student Council Prowkley Our Student Council provides many valuable services to Strong Vincent High School. It is respon- sible for arranging and financing professional assem- blies, it pays for the athletic letters, it buys the athletic trophies, and it sponsors the annual Merit Award Assembly. These activities requiring financial support are perhaps the ones best known to the student body. However, they are really not the most important. The Council is responsible for approving new stu- dent organizations, for sponsoring the all-school wel- fare drives, and for keeping the student body aware of school problems when they occur. The Strong Vincent Student Council is an important link be- tween the students and the school's administration. In the process of serving our school and the stu- dent body, the Council performs a function impor- tant to the representatives themselves. Each mem- ber goes through the experience of participating in an organization which carries out certain neces- sary jobs in a democratic procedure and through student participation. The group's officers also learn by receiving valuable training in leadership. Several of these officers are privileged to attend the State Convention, held once each year. Newell Tarrant and YVinnie Lyons were the representatives who at- tended the 1959 convention. Mr. LeBlanc, chief advisor, and New- ell Tarrant, President, discuss the re- sult of a Student Council-sponsored function. Q Guiding the Student Council were Mrs. Heid, Mrs. MacKrell, Mr. Le Blanc, and Mr. Wilkin- son. Under this capable leader- ship and advice the Student Council had a very successful year.
