New additions to plant and improve- ment of facilities are appreciated changes in the way of progress. But, basically, the character of Vincent over the years reflects the imprint of those who have passed through it-students, teachers, parents. Students haven't changed much. They still lose their books. They insist lockers are too small, ex- cept when they clean them out. They forget admits They hurry only when they're late. Boys attend dances, just to stand around the band. Spring fever, and holding hands, curiously remain a daily ail- ment for some. But all promenade in the 8:15 Merry- go-round. Teachers haven't changed much. They still in- sist on a day's Work for a day's pay. They require that assignments be completed when due. They rarely give high marks. And some even lower the boom when we're late tor class. Parents haven't changed much. They still ask us, Where is the money going to come from? They expect us to get- home right after school. And they think We ought to make all A's. Well, there we are-Vincent-in a facetious way, but are we? Vincent is thousands of students, hundreds of teachers, countless parents, who in giving their best abilities for 25 years, have acquired for it a good reputation of scholastic achievement, service, re- sponsibility and high standards of conduct. gp. : l The Face of Vincent l1asn't pf, ,. . f e f ff: Wife i QL r -. Each year the Council sponsors four class parties, one for each of the high school grades and one for the lunior High, as well as several noon-day dances. Every money-rais- ing activity sponsored by student groups must be approved by the Council before the group may pro- ceed. The Council retains responsibility for raising the necessary funds to pay for letters and other awards granted to our athletes and those who have performed useful service for the school. The main fund-rais- ing activities are the variety showsg one is produced each semester. Largely conceived and then directed by a Council committee, they are thoroughly enjoyed by the students. This year's productions, Vincent Varieties and Vincent's Version of Vaudevillef' marked a new high in excellence. AW Bob Butler, chairman of the spring variety show, dtscusses plans with P. Erzer, I. Musical enthusiasts are Dean Chase, lim Bruno and Gladimero Bucarelli, all of whom vocalize in Choir. lim Burghardt is the lone Band mem- ber: and the Glee Club claims Bob Caruso as a member. Keeping the homeroom up to date on Student Council news is representative Jerry Alward. The boys ot 126 are not to be outdone in sports. Performing for the swimming team is lohn Boucher and acting as manager is Ron Bacher. The baseball diamond lures lack Barber, while Frank Banko prefers Cross Coun- try. Homeroom l 12 Homeroom ll2 certainly can be proud of its athletes. Looking back, we recall the gridiron power of Bonnie Hahn, lim Freeborne, Bonnie Corsi and Bob Dinges, and the feats of Iohn Hartman, Larry Frick and Bill Holland in Swim- ming and Water Polo. We also remember William Eddinger practicing for Cross Country, Pat DiMarco going all out for Baseball, and Charles Culbertson working hard to improve his wrestling technique under the watchful eye of wrestling manager, Ron Iohnson. The musical talents of the boys call for com' ment. Ted DiSantis may someday rival Harry lames on the trumpetg Lee Humble can really beat those drums. Our own Stan Fuller crashed the headlines when he was invited to play with the Academy Band in the Tournament of Roses Parade. Fall Sp arts if, FOOTBALL With high hopes, the Vincent football team started its l954 season under the coaching of lohn Krkoska and Vincent Bell. lt was hoped that this was the beginning of a new era in football for the school, an era of improved and winning teams. During the first three weeks of practice, the boys were put through inten- sive drills in calisthenics, fundamentals, and team play. With these, work on T-formation plays was initiated, in preparation for a tough ten-game sched- ule. Harborcreek, moving into Class A play because of a sharp increase in enrollment, handed the Colonels a l3-l2 upset in the first encounter. This was an unexpected result to pre-season forecasts. The following week, journeying -f-'QF to DuBois, the team met with a 35-O defeat. fi Having two games behind them, the Bed and Black prepared for their ' first City Series game against Prep. With determination the key word, they played a superb game and came through with a sparkling 6-6 tieea moral victory, for Prep became the City Champions. ' A 1 twill? , Meeting Washington away, the boys suffered a 47-20 defeat. The next K 1 frrjlftfg Q 3gH game was one which the whole school had anxiously been awaiting. Vincent, Q? 15 celebrating its silver anniversary, had planned a homecoming for the alumni, A' at which time Diane Armstrong was crowned as Homecoming Queen. The .. 1 Colonels, in meeting Bradford, showed alertness and drive through the entire ' .N '-K game, and upset the visitors with a stunning 2l-l3 victoryw the perfect ending Q3-is l , f X' for a carefullyplanned Homecoming. Academy won 39-l4. On October 29, our gridrnen traveled to Sharon with a large following of fans to face the powerful Tigers. Outplayed from the beginning, they lost 32-l2, Still maintaining hope for another victory, the Red and Black met Tech at the Stadiump they played the Centaurs to a l4-l4 tie, thereby taking third place in City Series competition. ln the last game of the year the Colonels suffered a 44-6 loss at York. CITY AND DISTRICT CHAMPIONS We're proud of our swimming team. Need we say more? Everyone knows of the outstanding merits ot our Vincent swim- mers. They have taken the City Championship tor nine years in succession, and in that time have won 74 meets, a record that is marred only hy a tie with Academy in the l953 season. Under the superb coaching of Art Weible, the swimming talents ct Barry Poulson, Iohn and loe Mozdy, Warren Weber, Larry Erick, lohn Crouch and Ed Lutz have resulted in top hon- crs tor our school in city and district competition. Appendicitis, the code name for calamity, robbed the squad of the services of lohn Keller and lohn Mozdy.
