Smooth sailing for awhile, then suddenly a reverse. But in the midst of even our most disheartening setbacks we can certainly be happy about the honors that have come to an unusually high number of our teachers and students. Honors, not just bestowed indeed notxnor honors sought for, but honors justly earned and mod- estly accepted. The Spokesman is indeed proud of the people who appear the next few pages. Were all proud of themxand glad bask in their reflected glory. As you look throu h year so glitteri on that W ' g the lcl ng? No? applaud th e may onor pages, can you recall another . Neither can we. So join us while we ern, won 't you? Jo.

MISS MABEL STUDEBAKER To Miss Mabel Studebaker has come the highest honor to which a teacher in the United States may aspire-thatof the Presidency of the National Education Association. Miss Studebaker whose personal charm and teaching ability are by now a by-word among educators the nation over, has always been active in teacher affairs. She has held many offices in local and national organizations. Two years ago Miss Studebaker was honored in being chosen by the N. E. A. as one of three Americans to be sent to Eng- land to study educational problems in that country. The list of the offices Miss Studebaker has held, and the things she has done are indeed an impressive, but too long to be re- corded here. Of all the titles she has held, the one which means most to her is-MABEL STUDEBAKER, BIOLOGY TEACHER, STRONG VINCENT HIGH SCHOOL, ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA. She is equally active in educational circles outside the school itself. She has held the following offices in the Erie Teachers Association: Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary, and President, all for two year terms. She has not confined her activities to local affairs but has been Eastern Vice'President of the National League of Teachers Organizations for four years. This year she has been elected President of this nation-wide organ- ization, a great honor, indeed. For this honor, for her boundless energy, her infectious laugh and keen wit, we're proud of our MISS WILSON. 10
