JQ This Book Belongs to The Staff of the 1946 Spokesman started the usual way in September with many new ideas and the usual thought in mind of improving on previous books. Moving along according to schedule, we were rudely interrupted by the sad accident that was to deprive us of the faithful guidance of our adviser, Miss Cora Anne Pearce. With the advance of the school calendar, we had to meet new deadlines and face shortage problems with film and flash bulbs. However, we have survived and present this '46 volume for its approval. Special attention and many thanks are here given to Mrs. Mazur, Miss Connell, and Mr. Humphrey, for their sincere cooperation during this emergency and also to Roberta Portz, and james Carstater for the extra work they did in art. We hope that we have been able to give each student who owns 'a Spokesman, something to take with him that will be a reminder ofihis days here at Strong Vincent. Charlotte Ann Ford Editor RN 10, P 2 To Miss Cora Anne Pearce, in ialf of her long and faithful service Strong Vincent High School, we, the as of 1946, dedicate this Spokesman. We deeply appreciate and respect splendid cooperation and interest all school life. Her untiring work, vlehearted devotion, her sincerity, and alty to every cause, make her an standing individual We will always member. 9 V T ' 10 nited We Stand N THIS 1946 SPOKESMAN, we are trying to ex- press the importance of knowing what liberty and peace mean to us. To maintain this liberty and peace, we must observe the laws of God and man. Laws are our friends. They are not barriers to block the way, or hedges to hold us in. Rather they are road-signs on the highway of life. Unrestrainetl liberty for any man destroys the freedom and safety of the whole countrv. This often leads to chaos. One of the greatest dangers to freedom in our land. and in every land, lies in the fact that so many people are concerned only with their rights and Liber- ties, not with their obligations. 'l'hi5'nation can never be truly and fully free, until it has learned to obey. to keep justice, and to do right. lVe must as- sume the responsibilities that go with liberty. if we would keep it. XVe must, when s ueakin of freedom, never for one l 2 moment forget the Great Creator. The man or country that builds according to the pattern of God's laws will build nobly and permanently. One cannot speak of the laws of peace and omit anv section of a I . v 1 the world. National Peace is of no use to us without YVorld Peace. Let us by God's grace, make this year of peace. the greatest year for the building of good will, love, and brotherhood in all the history of the world. SPOKESMAN S-XLFSlN1FN+R0cz' Onf: Y. Dujnlun. 'lhat organization led by Charlotte Ford? Wie are a good hunch, OH yes we are, lllith hard work and planning. we've really gone far!! We h'ad a hard time getting the Spokesman out this year. lihere were times when we all felt like shedding tears. Miss Pearce had an accident, and left us all alone, Giving us most ol' our instructions oyer the telephone. 'lihere is little blonde Arlene, who types the very best. We Want you to know she had little time for rest. Of course there'5 Poke along l'ick: his hulhs flashing everywhere. llhose snaps he took on the side were really something rare.D Nancy and -laner did things well. and finished what was hr-gun. Doing errands in the halls seemed to keep Dot on the run. Mary l,ou did some oliour mounting, Vllhile lflossie, the seniors was eounting. Bob sat in the hack, drawing his silly cartoons. What would our Spokesman he without some of his goons?' Did l hear a noise coming like a stampede ol' cattle? Yep! Vllziteritian just finished the division pages, and UH, what a hattle Rose and lietty left us in the middle of the year, VVe hadn't got rolling'yet, we were only in second gear Wlhile you hoys and girls were out enjoying the warm spring air, Wie were slaving in 210, it was an awful thing to hare. It seemed at times we-'d never come through, But now that it's over, I'm satislied, aren't you? l've told you all about us, the hest l know how, And now you know we all had our hands hehind the plough.
