Half pipes, channel ramps, and knee pads are all a part of . . . kateboarding They ' re back again, but now bigger and better than ever. The name skater may be the same but the tricks are way different. Even though you don ' t see a lot of skaters cruising down the street doesn ' t mean they ' re not around. Now they ' re confied to ramps, otherwise known as half pipes or channel ramps. The skateboard is not a Coby Cardosa demonstrates how to jump from his skateboard just before turning it completely over. mischievious toy, it is a way of expressing yourself and learn- ing balance. Most people do not realize the physical and mental coordination needed in skating. Skating is just like any other sport, they have contests and championship finals at the end of the year. This fast growing sport is the latest new way of expressing one ' s coordination and individuality. Chad Cardosa displays his talent in skateboarding on the channel ramp. Skateboarders use this to practice their routines for their championship finals which are held at the end of the year. Brent Smiga displays t he old familiar way of skateboarding which one is most familiar with. Skateboards were forbidden on campus and if a student was caught with one. the board would remain in the office until 3:30 p.m. that same day. Skateboarding —
