ff-season, preparing for the long haul BONE-CRUNCHING tackling, dirt flying, sweat pouring, and muscles aching. It ' s America ' s favorite sport- FOOTBALL !!! But this isn ' t the glory of a game. In fact, it will be months before the first game is played. This is off-season football, where players train to get ready for next season. Optimism and en- thusiasm are the feeling of the athletes about the upcoming season. Our players have the best attitude that I have seen since I have been here. They are working really hard and have put out a great effort, said Coach Lee Barnard. Having goals makes it easier to make im- provements. Each athlete has his own goals to try to reach. To develop a positive attitude and the desire to set and reach Ralph Escalante; pitcher, warms up his arm before prac- tice. Since G.I.L. ruling to work after school much of the work has to be done on their own. There has to be the determination to work and to try to be the best you can. Off-season is usually the most overlooked part of football, but it is the most important part, said Coach Lee Barnard. Next year should be a great season with this kind of enthusiasm. n Jijtis ' ' ' S:.}itk . Part of off-season training in foot- ball is working out with weights. Thanks to the new weightroom. the players have a chance to work on strengthing themselves. Assistant coaches Lee Barnard, and Kenneth Parker, go through practice drills with members of the football team. Practices were held during fourth perod athletics because according to OIL rules, they weren ' t allowed to practice after school. Spring Training 137
