l CLASH REUNION - f' -030:14 All seemed lost as fthe Marines stood trembling on the beach head awaiting the help they so desperately needed. Help arrived, and as soon as STRlBLlNG's team of ravaging marauders surged ashore, the confidence of impending victory shown on the faces of the landing parties' troops. Led by ENS J. W. Zellerbach, the team of fearless fighters soon conquered the inner-most reaches of the savage island of Sardinia. Braving hundreds of privations and herds of wild mountain sheep, our men returned safely to make ready for the battles that wait in the future and in the mind.

personality that keeps him at the pinnacle of success. APOLLO astronauts had a more pleasant voyage with the knowledge that Mr. McBride was using his knowledge of Naval Shiphandlihg fCrenshawJ and expert maneuvering tactics to avoid any interference with trans-lunar travels. ENS john Zellerbach is the driving force behind the driving forces that keep our main deck spaces in good shape as well as tending to anchor and line maintenance. ENS Zellerbach has also taken on the collateral duties of Public Affairs Officer and Cruise Book Supervisor. Engineering during the majority of our voyage came under the top watchful eye of LT james A. Maxwell, recently replaced by L1TjG Gary K. Anderson. The job of Chief Engineer on a 25 year old destroyer can be a real challenge as it does encompass main propulsion, damage control, auxiliary equipment, electrical systems, and general repairs. With so many areas of responsibility, a Chief Engineer needs the knowing assistance of specialists such as ENS Richard Wersinger in Main Propulsion. Main Propulsion is just what it purports to be - the enginesxand the generated steam needed to drive them. Ship's must have dependable mobility and men trained and skilled in keeping her that way. Our entire engineering crew has done just that - flawlessly - throughout the entire voyage. Repair is an ever present problem and demands the constant attention of LTJG james J. Quinn and the crewmen known as Shipfitters. Closely associated with repair is Damage Control, an area involving emergency repair, fire fighting, flood prevention, and life saving. ENS Richard Williams, Damage Control Assistant, directly supervises the operation of this vital area. The electrifying leader of E division is ENS S. M. Ball. His charge includes all of the ship's electrical systems and internal commu- nication systems. This is a big load on any man's shoulders, but through his superior ability to organize, Mr. Ball has kept maintenance on a current basis throughout the cruise. Supplies are vital to any operation and a ship is no exception, in fact, it is a special case in that supplies are not always easy to get while on the high seas and in foreign countries. Thanks to LTJG E. G. Cumesty and LTJG C. D. Young, fuel for the ship and fuel for the crew was always on hand. Parts also come under thy' direct sup-eQsion and ample parts for all departments were readily available. Another area related to supply is pay for the crew, and LTJG Young had his hands in the money. Crew members were careful to stay on the good side of Mr. Young. When visiting foreign countries, it is best to make expenditures in the local currency and for this, LTJG Young worked diligently to have plenty of the local stuff on board for exchange. Ship's Service comes under the eye of our suppliers and provide crew members with laundry, barber, and excellent ship's store service. A As one can see, the entire cycle of operation on this or any other ship requires experts in many areas. Our WATCHBILL Officers are our experts. -4-w ' ,I BALL YOUNG and CUMESTY
