McMillinn, J. Snlz An asset to any band's achievements is to have enjoyable concerts, and Streator's band has given its audience something to be proud of. The first concert was presented to the student body a week before Christmas. This added to the growing excitement and senti- ment felt by all students in providing holi- day music of varied interests. The winter concert, February 12, showed music admirers of the area what an industrious band they are. A variety or' music was presented. mostly in the lighter category. At the spring concert, May 11, more classical variety was performed than in previous engagements. A springtime mood was created when the curtains opened, to a band dressed in suits, and a chorus in lovely pastel formals. A highlight of the concert was the presentation of the John Phillip Sousa Band Award to the outstanding graduating band member. 15 Ambition, determination, and plenty of hard work compensated those students who entered the district contest for solos and ensembles which was held in Earlville, March 24. Seventeen soloists and seven en- sembles represented the Streator band. Of these, eleven soloists and four ensembles won firsts or superior ratings, and journeyed to the state contest held in Peoria, May 4. Four soloists and two ensembles received seconds or excellent ratings. Two soloists and one ensemble returned with thirds or good ratings. Another big event was the state band contest at which the Streator band, compet- ing against top-notch bands from all over Illinois, received a very fine rating. It was held in Peoria, May 5. All of these activities, together with many others. brought about a feeling of having had a very successful year. It is with great expectation that this group looks forward to years ahead with the S. H. S. Band. l

Rouillurd. participated in many worthwhile activities during the 1955-56 school year. Early in October the ninety piece band visited Northwestern University and marched with fifty-two other bands at the First Annual High School Band Day. A good marching band is a boost to any high school cheering section as was proved at Strea- tor's football games. The high - stepping drummers. rhythmically kept pace with Streat0r's touchdownsg the brass section. loud and bold. urged the Bulldogs on to victory. and the band played the familiar strains of the Loyalty ahoye the victorious cries ot' the Bulldog fans. ll+l
