mi THE REVIEW In publishing the REVIEW the jour- nalism students learned the practical application of all phases of putting out a small paper, including editing, reporting, copyreading, and financing. By changing editors every issue, each student was given a chance to give as well as to take orders and thus learn to cooperate with his fellow students. A wide range of material was covered by the REVIEW this year. An effort was made to include a write-up of every club, sport activity and event in the school, to please the Whole student body. THE REVIEW The Streator High parade of on the spot news, editorials, gossip, and sports write-ups was taken care of bi-weekly during the year by the journalism class, who, under the direction of Miss Moyni- han, published our school paper the REVIEW. Subscriptions of one dollar were taken early in the year by the staff, who also delivered the papers to the students. The increase over last year's price made it pos- sible again to make the REVIEW a four- page publication and for the first time to use photos to keep up on events. Al Healy, a freshman, was the REVIEW photogra- pher this year. SOMETHING FUNNY? I . A BAND Ladies and Gentlemen, and Students of Streator High-here is the band of 1949. On the first day of school they began their practices for the performances given be- tween the halves of the football games. Many amazing formations, the Four-Leaf Clover, Peg of My Heart, and the initials of the visiting teams were created for these performances. Probably the most outstanding was the clock with the mov- ing hands performed to the music Now Is the Hour. On October 23 the band went to the Illinois State Normal University Home- coming at Normal, Illinois. There they entered into competition with eleven other bands. They received a first place rating as the best all around band and came FIRST AGAIN WITH - x .............,. ..i.......,.... -- - .... ..........- home with the third trophy awarded them in two years. Starting in December the band entertained the spectators at the basketball games with their playing of snappy marches and hit tunes. In accordance with the school tradition only seniors hold offices in the band. The officers elected this year were: president, Grace Ann Mooreg vice president, Delores Brockg and secretary-treasurer, Harry Dawson. A council consisting of two other seniors, Wesley Knight and Anne Louise Keller, were chosen by Mr. Brix to work with the ofiicers. As a climax to a successful season the band presented the spring concert on May 5. MUSIC MEN IZ4
