15 First Addition Built 1902 Razecl 1936 Agaln ln 1923 the crowded condltlons made lt necessary to make another addltlon The orlglnal was razed and classes were conducted 1n the first addltlon and 1n the Annex Much dlfficulty was encountered 1n dlgglng the foundatlons because of the layer of quick sand dlrectly beneath the surface but the bulldlng was completed 1n the fall of 25 and dedlcated November 16 Included 1n the new add1t1on were a beautlful gymnaslum a fully equlpped cafeterla and a model apartment The old gy mnas1um was converted into a machme shop and the wood shop was greatly enlarged and lmproved That sectlon Whlch was added ln 1902 had become unsaf for use by 1936 so lt was declded to tear It down to make way for a long deslred audltorlum and new classrooms Work was begun on the new bulldlng ln February Althou h It was hoped that lt would be completed by December unavoldable delay ln obtalnlng materlals presented the occupation of the blllldlllg untll the mlddle of February Formal dedlcatlon was held March 2 An educa tlonal moy 19 w as shown 1n the audltorlum and xarlous mterest ng speakels completed the program Among the speakers were the Honorable John A Wleland State Superlntendent of Schools MISS Lltta Law a faculty member who gaxe the teachers NIEHS on the new addltlon Lola Johnson and Frank Harrlson, members of the Senlor Class, w ho gave the students news Th1s new add1t1on 13 so arxanged that almost all of the space on a gn en floor belongs to a separate depaltment For example, on the top ,-p- ,,--+A? - - A-f-f-f -+7--g? --,..., - ,,,.,Y,,., , , , r ' h , J , - x ' ,V ' ' I 4X - xox rx f 'Q 'V 1 f' ! .xg A 1 I ' I Z! b .
