January, 1948 Dear Seniors. It would he easy tor me to confine myself to loiolcling you a fond farewell. wishing you goocl lucli. anal having myself thought ol? as a fine fellow. I prefer. however, to use this opportunity to impress upon you most earnestly a thought of the greatest possilale consequence in your future lives. Graduation from high school is alaove all a time for clecision, a time for talcing onels hearings and plotting a suitable course through lite. Will you do that at all? Ancl it you clo. will you do it intelligently, or will you simply follow the path ot least resistance? You neecl no reminder of the foolish ways in which many hoys ancl girls choose high schools ancl coursesg were you perhaps one ol them? Now you are setting out on a new path. Will it he a lalincl alley, chosen only laecause it olilers some immecliate return, or is easy? I hope not. The roaol you talse shoulcl he one that will leaol to lilelong happiness and contentment. The other clay a simple olcl larmer saicl. Mlwhese :lays we hear so much alaout preparing people to enjoy their leisure time. Teach them to enjoy their worlz, l say. No one enjoys his worli who is merely clritting from jolb to joh, waiting lor a Hlirealcu As every llootlaall coach linows. the good team malfces its own lirealfs. I wish you all, therellore, not merely goocl luclc, hut all the happiness you can earn. Sincerely. JON B. LEDER Principal 7

World of Tomorrow Though. throughout history, the people ot the world have made enormous strides in the field of science and industry, they have yet to find a solution for the preservation ot peace among nations, people, races and religions. Xve are the tuture generation and it will loe up to us, the high school graduates ot today, to help find a solution tor this prolalem. The people ot the world have let science get the upper hand. The development ot science has enalgled man to produce the instruments which can inevi- talnly and completely ohliterate all manliind from the earth. The world has lneen in chaos and despondency hetore and recovered, yes. hut never has there heen the threat of complete disintegration which exists today. That is the reason it is imperative tor us to gain the lcnowledge which will enahle us to create the machinery lor world cooperation. tr is up to us. the students ot the world of today and the citizens ot the world of to- morrow. to malxe up lor the centuries ot scientific advancement over learning. The people hetore us did not learn their lesson lrom history. and laecause they laclaed the lxnowleclge necessary lor the creation ol? a lasting peace. the world has not yet learned to live without strite and aggression. It is either now or never: it we donqt maintain peace in 'tomor- rows world. we may never again have a chance to do so. Pl-hat is the reason we are lieing educated. It is time to realize that peace can he maintained only liy thorough lcnovvleclge and Wise judg- ment. and not hy evil torces ol destruction. The importance of democracy and mutual understanding must he taught all over the world to every person on earth il we are to have a lasting peace. Though it is possilole to develop machines to too great a degree, it never is possilule to have too much lcnowledge. It is our joh to seelx knowledge in order that We can fulfill our duty as protectors ot the peace. We must develop into thinlcers and doers and not remain the inert machines that men fwith a few ex- ceptionsi otten have lneen. The time to prepare is the present. and it We are successful the results will he felt in the World ot tomorrow and many Worlds in the future. It we tail, the world of tomorow may never come into realization. 9
