WAR AND PEACE War and Peace. These words are so closely relafed, buf oh how far aparT! The sound of The one eiTher arouses ouTbursTs of paT- rioTism, or iT vividly brings To mind The desolaTion and sufferings syno- nimous wiTh ThaT word. The oTher picTures golden fields, green pasTures and lively peaceful indusTries. WhaT really does war mean? Does iT noT mean mass desTrucTion of The human species ifself? Does iT noT sfand for all ThaT is horrible and for The greaTesT calamiTy ThaT has befallen The human race? From The frequency wiTh which wars occur, one mighT say ThaT we are defin- iTely and ineviTably commiTTed To This plague. BuT why? War has proved unsaTisfacTory in accomplishing The ends ThaT were in mind when The appeal To arms was made, and The issues of conflicfs impose Their burdens on The vicTor no less Than on The vanquished. Since in our modern and highly advanced civilizafion, we discard all else ThaT is impracTical, why noT do away wiTh war as an ouTmoded meThod of seTTling differences? LeT us Turn To someThing more sane. The sTudenTs of Today are rulers of Tomorrow, and upon Them resTs a parf of The responsibiliTy of making The world The place iT was infended To be. They are The ones who musT work for fuTure peace. They musT lear see facTs as They really are, and analyze These facTs for Them- selve , independenf of popular or radical opinions. for or againsf. When The evidence has been carefully siffed, Then is The Time To come To a conclusion as To wheTher war or peace is essenTial To nafional exisTence and honor. This. graduafes. is your iob!
