SENIOR BOYS ' FOOTBALL he Senior Football Team faired well this season considering the new players which were added this lar. Under the coaching of Mr. Gilfillan, Mr. Breitkreutz, and Mr. Gorgichuk, Scona Lords finished the ason with a 3-4, win-loss record. The team ' s manager was Grant Siple. The captains of the See Lords were Grant Wyton, Craig Raskin, Gord Heffel, and Al McLean. The Lords suffered defeat agi I Jasper Place, Ross Shephard, Bonnie Do on, and Victoria but these were offset by victories over So Joseph’s, Queen Elizabeth and Harry Ainlay. JUNIOR BOYS ' FOOTBALL Despite excellent coaching by Mr. Anderson and Rick Brown, and hard work by manager Harry the Scona juniors fought through an unsuccessful season. Although they were given good leader- iy team capta ins Pete King and Hugh McColl, the juniors didn ' t manage to win any games. Towards t n d of the season, the team showed promise, and can look forward to a more successful season next fo SENIOR BOYS ' BASKETBALL The 1 966-67 Senior Lords provided our school with one of the strongest teams in a league consisting o ery formidable opponents. In pre-season play the Lords showed strong offensive as well as defensive ability by defeating .I.T. 59 to 41 and the University of Alberta Junior Golden Bears 46 to 41. After a hectic exhibition :es, the team swung into action in the city ' s twelve team league. The season started off brightly by eating Harry Ainlay, but the team dropped the next two games to Eastglen and Bonnie Doon. The t nine league games saw Scona go undefeated as they fought to a first place tie with Eastglen and a are of the Queen Victoria Challenge Cup. Probably the most thrilling game of the regular season was rainst the defending Provincial Champion Victoria Redmen which saw the Vic club go down 58 to 53 at hands of the Lords. In the city play-offs their first contest saw them pitted against St. Joe ' s. The boys won handily by 52 to 37 score. This advanced them to the semi-finals in which they were upset by their old foe Vic. Nonetheless, it was a very successful season and thanks go out to Mr. Anderson for a coaching b well done. Special recognition must go out to Bob Morris, top scorer in the league, and to Ric olstad, third scorer in the league, and top rebounder. Both of these fine players were named to the ity All-Star Team. JUNIOR BOYS ' BASKETBALL The Junior Basketball team, made up of grade 10 and grade II boys, was given expert guidance by the coach, Mr. Wright. The team did fairly well, finishing in the top division. BOYS ' HOUSE LEAGUE This year the boys’ house league provided many noon hour activities for Scona’s boys. These activities were planned by the Boys’ Athletic Council which was sponsored by Mr. Anderson. The position of secretary-treasurer was filled by John Arlette. The presidents and vice-presidents of the houses were: Red: Ed Bridges and Bill Brooks; Green: Sandy Dunn and Mark Hyslop; Gold: Spencer Manning and Cal Lange; Blue: Greg Sims and Brian Stelk. House league events commenced with football, of which Blue emerged victor. VolleybalI, which followed, was won by Green House. In hockey the A section was won by Green and the B section was won by Blue. Red House amassed the most points during Muk-Luk Week. Water polo is still being played. A new event, the House League Challenge Cup, was introduced this year. Once a month the house who holds the cup is challenged by the other three houses. Challenges have been issued in the form of murderba 11, broombal I, a bike race and a novelty track meet. 97
